Postgame Quotes
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
Overall thoughts on tonight's 62-60 exhibition win.
"I thought it provided everything that we wanted out of a game like this. We had drama at the end, we had to get a couple stops and make a play on the offensive end. I tried going into the game not worrying as much about the overall outcome, which is hard to do, but more so, how we handled those situations, how we handled a call from the referee, how we played overall as opposed to how we performed. You can play the right way, but perform poorly. For the most part, I thought we played the right way."
On the play from the freshmen including Donovann Toately's game-winning layup.
"I thought the freshmen handled it well. I did. We had three of them on the floor on the very last play. There were some really good things out there. Donovann [Toately]Â specifically, that guy has been doing things like that his whole life. That's something he can provide for this team. Throughout earlier stages of the game, he can do some of that stuff like break you down off the dribble. He had a very aggressive attack at the rim. He drove really hard, countered, and finished. It was very similar to the stuff he practices. It was nice to see him be able to do that for the team."

On expectations coming into tonight's game.
"I don't know if I had any expectations on a score to be honest with you. I think they [Lee] have some older players that are very prideful. I told the guys that I played D3 basketball and there would be some big time recruits come in to the gym and play pick up over the summer with us. They thought they were going to get it done and they ended up walking out with a different mindset. They have a lot of players with pride and they're also very good basketball players. They have a guy more athletic than anyone on our team. I was just concerned how we were going to play and go about our business."
Donovann Toatley, Fr.-G
On the final possession and converting the game-winning layup.
"On the last offensive possession, coach Paris brought me to the side and asked if I like spread or flat. I told him the biggest guy or slowest guy, I wanted him on me. So I told him flat. They took out their slowest man and put in all guards. They had a small line up and Jonathan [Scott] had the slowest guy on him, so I said flat. I told Jonathan to come up and set the screen, and from there the rest was history. I drove past him and made the final basket. We got the stop and got the dub. I'm proud of my team. Most importantly the shot comes last. Jonathan got the biggest charge of the game, which shifted the momentum at the end. So the dub really goes to him."
Taking lessons on this win moving forward.
"We definitely feel like we could build off this. Like John said, this was a growing point for us. Going through that adversity, even though it was an exhibition game, it was a back and forth game. But Lee came out guns blazing. They were on fire. I don't think they missed too much in the first half. We were off. We were giving up back doors. It felt like a real game. The energy and the atmosphere of the arena and the fans, what we were going through. It think this is a big turning point for us. Seeing what we can do as a team, as a collective unit when we stick together, we fight and never stop fighting, we could beat anybody."
Jonathan Scott, Fr.-G/F
On taking crucial charge late in the second half & making all the hustle plays.
"I do whatever I can to win. One big thing is flying around, creating energy for everyone else, and doing the things other people don't want to do. It really effects the game. They're winning plays and I want to win, so I'll do anything."
Moving forward after tonight's win.
"It feels really good. It was definitely a growing point for us. It was a good test. We have to move on to Charlotte. This next game is the most important. Much props to Lee. They're a good team."
