CHATTANOOGA---Freshman point guard Donovann Toatley's layup with 2.5 seconds to go earned the Chattanooga Mocs a 62-60 exhibition game win over Lee. The play was setup on both ends of the floor by Jonathan Scott.

We'll let Toatley explain.

"I told Jonathan to come up and set the screen," he began. "The rest is history. I got past him and made the final basket. We got the stop and got the dub. I'm proud of my team. Most importantly, the shot comes last.

"Jonathan got the biggest charge of the game, which shifted the momentum at the end. So the dub really goes to him."

Scott took the charge with 20.7 to play on a drive by Chattanooga native Ryan Montgomery. The offensive foul on Montgomery, who ended up with 14 points and 11 rebounds, came after Toatley's driving score with 41.0 seconds left knotted the contest at 60.

Toatley tied Montgomery for game-high honors with 14 points. Kevin Easley added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds to the cause.

Lee led by as many as eight in the first half. The Mocs biggest lead of five came on a Toatley free throw with 6:28 to go in the game, 54-49. The Flames crawled back to score the next six points re-gaining the advantage 55-54 on Colton Blevins jumper from the right elbow.

Easley answered with two big free throws on the next possession. He dropped both ends of the one-and-one to put the Mocs ahead 56-55. Blevins immediately answered with a 3pt to flip the score back to 58-56 at 2:20. Toatley's jumper at 2:04 tied it for the fifth time.

The Mocs got a stop but turned it over. Cody Jones scored in transition to get Lee the lead, 60-58 setting up Scott and Toatley's heroics.

QUOTABLE
Lamont Paris on tonight's win:
"I thought it provided everything that we wanted out of a game like this. We had drama at the end, we had to get a couple stops and make a play on the offensive end. I tried going into the game not worrying as much about the overall outcome, which is hard to do, but more so, how we handled those situations, how we handled a call from the referee, how we played overall as opposed to how we performed. You can play the right way, but perform poorly. For the most part, I thought we played the right way."

Jonathan Scott on how do you approach games:
"I do whatever I can to win. One big thing is flying around, creating energy for everyone else, and doing the things other people don't want to do. It really affects the game. They're winning plays and I want to win, so I'll do anything."

3 STATS TO KNOW
  • Toatley's 14 points came on 6-9 shooting from the field and 2-4 at the free throw line. Eleven of the 14 came in the second half.
  • The Mocs were +6 in turnover margin forcing 15 while surrendering just nine.
  • Lee shot a sizzling 61.5 percent (16-26) in the first stanza before being limited to 28.6 (8-28) in the second.
