Sometimes life aligns perfectly. You come up with an idea, go through some stories that introduce a team and give a little insight into who the guys are.
There are some serious like
David Jean-Baptiste being engaged on campus. There are funny ones that touch on a truth as
Thomas Smallwood's dad as the eldest player on the team. Some play off habits or behaviors like
Justin Brown's waffle. But when you hit on what a student-athlete's mom calls them, you know you've arrived.
Enter
Jonathan Scott & his "energy" stage left.
"My mom actually calls me the energizer bunny," Scott affirmed. "I'm always going...I don't like to sit down for long periods of time."
Smiling, "I don't know if my teammates meant energy on or off the court. Maybe a little bit of both. I try to bring energy, especially in practice, because it sparks the team."
Energy was the pre-dominant word Scott's peers used to describe him. In some ways, it's hard to picture one without the other in a sentence.
"
Jonathan Scott and energy go together like peanut butter, jelly and bread,"
Rod Johnson shared. "Jon's one of the most energetic guys on the team. He's the most energetic when it comes to the basketball court. He's also really energetic off the court where you almost have to tell him to settle down (Scott affirmed that too)."
You get the picture? It's sort of like
Jonathan Scott is the very definition of energy or the ancient Latin term for it. Ah, Idustira Jonnus Scottus?
So does he ever power down outside of a decent night's sleep?
"He's always super active on the court and off it,"
Ramon Vila chimed in. "He's such a good guy to be around. I feel like he's always been super involved in sports. His brothers played basketball, I think his parents were athletes too.
"He's always in the gym getting shots up, always super active and energized."
The sports buzz word "motor" fits here. That high motor will serve the Mocs well in 2018-19.
Energy: the capacity of being active. A usually positive spiritual force. Vigorous exertion of power. Merriam-Webster
