Mocs Host ETSU & Wofford to Open SoCon Play

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team opens Southern Conference action this weekend against ETSU and Wofford.  The Mocs are set to host both matches at the Baylor School Courts in Chattanooga.

UTC faces ETSU on Saturday, March 3, at 12:00 p.m. (E.S.T.), followed by Sunday's bout against Wofford at 11:00 a.m.

"Conference matches are here and the team is excited to have our first two at home," stated head coach Chad Camper.  "The weather will be beautiful and the competition will be tough.

"ETSU is a solid program and it will take all we have to get the four points to win the match. Wofford has had a great start to the season and will come in very confident.  Both matches will be very competitive."

Chattanooga brings a 4-4 overall record into conference play.  The Mocs have dropped three in a row to tough competition, including losses on the road against Alabama (6-1), MTSU (4-0) and Tulane (5-2).

Freshman Emma Van Hee leads the Mocs with a 5-0 mark this spring.  She is 3-0 and No. 5 and 2-0 at No. 6 in dual matches.

The Bucs are 4-6 overall, and also open their SoCon season on Saturday.  Alory Pereira leads the team with a 6-1 mark at No. 2, while Ioanna Markesini is 5-3 at No. 1.

The Mocs are 18-7 all-time against ETSU, however, the Bucs have won four in a row and five of the last six.  UTC's last win in the series was a 5-2 victory in Johnson City on April 2, 2015.

Wofford is off to an 8-1 start this spring.  The Terries take on Gardner-Webb on Thursday, before heading to Chattanooga for Sunday's dual.  Their lone defeat was a 6-1 setback at Coastal Carolina on Feb. 17.  Cassidy Hicks leads the team with a 7-2 mark at No. 1.  She teams with Jenna Vroman for an 8-1 record at No. 1 doubles.

The Mocs are 19-3 all-time against Wofford, including nine-straight wins.  The last time the Mocs dropped one in the series was a 5-2 loss on April 1, 2008, in Chattanooga.
