5 Things for Saturday’s Game vs. Mercer

The Chattanooga Mocs return to McKenzie Arena for the penultimate home game of the season. Next up is Saturday’s doubleheader with the ladies opening festivities at 2 p.m., against ETSU and the men following against Mercer. GoMocs.com brings you “5 Things to Know” about the contest.

2) Details
This weekend is the inaugural Black Alumni Council Basketball Weekend celebration as several former Mocs return for a reunion. Cornelius Crank (1986-87) will be honored from the men's side, while Regina Kirk (1985-88) is the women's honoree. Crank, who died in a tragic fire in 1994, is represented by former teammates Maurice Head and James Hunter.

4) Nailbiters Becoming a Way of Life
This edition of the Chattanooga Mocs has a penchant for close games. Ten contests came down to the final possession in regulation this season. The Mocs are 4-6 in those instances with four coming in SoCon action (2-4). Four of the last five league games fit this description.
 
5) Three Notes to Notice
  1. They're 3-0 when the final possession comes at the defensive end (UT Martin, at Jacksonville State & The Citadel).
  2. Rodney Chatman reached double digits in each of the last four games with two in the 20s (22 vs. UNCG/26 at ETSU). He's averaging 18.3 ppg over that stretch with 5.3 rpg, 5.0 apg & 2.3 spg as well.
  3. In his last three home games, Joshua Phillips is averaging 13.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg shooting 77.8 percent (14-18) from the field and 68.8 percent (11-16) at the FT line.
