The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team is back on the road this week at Mercer. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at Five Star Stadium in Macon, Ga., on Saturday, Oct. 5. Mercer is promoting a United Way Pink Out Game for breast cancer awareness as part of Saturday's contest.
The Mocs are 2-3 overall and 1-0 in Southern Conference action after last week's 60-36 win over Western Carolina. Chattanooga put up 400 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns to go with 589 yards of total offense in the win against the Catamounts.
The Bears are trying to snap a three-game slide and are also 2-3 overall. They are 1-1 in SoCon action, including a 49-27 win over the Catamounts in the season opener and a 45-10 loss to No. 15 Furman on Sept. 21. Mercer's other win was a 45-7 victory at Presbyterian on Sept. 7.
Five Star Stadium has been a tough place to play for the Mocs. UTC is making its third trip to Mercer since the Bears reinstated football in 2013. The Mocs dropped both of their previous trips in 2015 (17-14) and 2017 (30-10) and are just 2-3 against the Bears since they joined the SoCon.
No. 14 Furman is currently tied with Samford for the SoCon lead with 2-0 league records. They are both 3-2 overall. The Mocs (2-3) are third at 1-0, while Mercer (2-3), Wofford (2-2) and VMI (2-3) are fourth at 1-1. The Citadel (2-3, 0-1 SoCon), ETSU (2-3, 0-2 SoCon) and Western Carolina (1-3, 0-2 SoCon) are all looking for their first win in league action.

IT'S ALL IN THE NAME
On first reference, it is acceptable to refer to us as the "University of Tennessee at Chattanooga." After that, we prefer to be called "Chattanooga" or "UTC." Our nickname is "Mocs," not Moccasins. Chattanooga is pronounced
chat-uh-NEW-guh, commonly mistaken as CHATT-nooga.
SEASON NO. 112

There was also a two-year hiatus from football action during World War II in 1943 and 1944. The Mocs have an all-time record of 541-535-35 (.503) and have won 13 conference titles.

ONE SACK ALLOWED IN FIVE GAMES
The Mocs have only allowed one sack in the first five games of the season. That one came against No. 2 James Madison and senior QB
Nick Tiano almost made it back to the line of scrimmage. The Mocs are tied for the SoCon lead and tied for No. 2 in the FCS in sacks allowed.
This continues a streak of improvement up front. UTC's offensive line gave up 17 sacks in 2018, which was third in the SoCon and 33rd in the FCS. That was much better from 2017 when they were last in the SoCon and 109th in the FCS, allowing over three per game.
FORD LEADS FCS FRESHMEN IN RUSHING YARDS PER GAME
True freshman
Ailym Ford is averaging 88.2 yards per game this season, tops among all freshmen at the FCS level. He is third in the SoCon and No. 27 overall in the FCS in rushing this season. He has twice been named in the Honorable Mention listings for National Freshman of the Week by STATS.
He had 30 carries for 195 yards and two TDs against Western Carolina, just seven yards shy of the school freshman record set by James Roberts (202) against ETSU on Oct. 14, 1989. His 30 carries were the most by a Moc since
Jacob Huesman had 31 against No. 21 Indiana State on Dec. 6, 2014.
Against No. 17 Jacksonville State, he posted 127 rushing yards on 22 carries and a score, becoming the Mocs' first true freshman to rush for 100 yards in a game since Erroll Wynn had 131 against Jacksonville State on Nov. 4, 2006.
He also led the Mocs with 50 rushing yards and a TD on 12 carries in the season opener against Eastern Illinois, the first true freshman to score in a debut since Chris Awuah in 2009.
DOWDELL BACK RETURNING PUNTS
Junior DB
Brandon Dowdell was No. 6 in the FCS with a 12.6 punt return average on 13 attempts as a freshman in 2017, but only had three attempts for nine yards in 2018. He did not return any punts on 2018, but returned to the job at Jacksonville State. He quickly made an impact with returns of 18 and 38 yards. The second was a career-long and set up the Mocs' second field goal. He also had a return of 27 yards at Tennessee negated by a penalty.
So far this season, Dowdell is averaging 14.6 yards on five returns. That would be 10th in the FCS if he had one more to qualify for the ranking. His 11.6 career average (21 attempts) is the second-highest mark in school history.
HENDERSON WITH BIG CATCHES
Junior WR
Reginald Henderson has had some big catches early in the season. He hauled in a season-long 34-yarder against Eastern Illinois and a 31-yarder that set up a score against No. 2 James Madison.
IBITOKUN-HANKS BIG GAME AT TENNESSEE
Senior transfer
Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks is hitting his stride after a slow start. In the first two games of the year, he only had three yards on four carries. When starter
Tyrell Price was lost for the year due to an injury, he stepped up in a big way.
Against Tennessee, Ibitokun-Hanks finished with 15 carries for 85 yards. He was 15 yards shy of becoming the first Moc rusher to top the century mark against an SEC team since Bryan Fitzgerald's 123 (14 carries) at Arkansas on Oct. 6, 2007. It's happened six times in school history against SEC opposition.
Against Western Carolina he posted 10 carries for 125 yards and two TDs, all in the first half. His 73-yard TD run in the second quarter was the longest run by a Moc since Kendrix Huitt had a 74-yarder at Western Carolina on Nov. 3, 2012. He ran the last 40 yards with a pulled hamstring and did not return after that carry. The 12.5 yards per carry was the best mark in a game since
Derrick Craine had 13.1 (118/9) against Presbyterian on OCt. 20, 2016, tying for eighth-best yards/carry in school history
Ibitokun-Hanks is now second on the team with 240 rushing yards on 38 carries (6.3 yards/carry) in five games.
