ABOUT CHATTANOOGA BASKETBALL
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs are off to a strong start to the 2019-20 season at 3-1. They embark on a five-game, four-city road swing Wednesday night at Florida State. It's the first meeting with the Seminoles since February 1, 1975.
The five-game swing is the longest stretch of games away from the Roundhouse since 2016. The regular season finale at VMI was followed by three wins en route to the Southern Conference Tournament Title and first round NCAA matchup with Indiana.
The last with at least three true road games included? November 2015. In that same season, the Mocs topped Illinois (81-77 in their Springfield home), lost 83-63 at Iowa State before heading to Niceville sweeping Alabama State (95-58) and Jacksonville State (62-52). They ended the journey with a sojourn to ULM losing 64-54.
Wednesday begins this trek at Florida State. The FSU game and next Monday's Tennessee (Nov. 25) tilt are part of the Emerald Coast Classic. The Mocs match up in Niceville, Fla., with Alabama State (Nov. 29) setting up a meeting with Chicago State or Jacksonville State. Deja vu?
The Mocs are coming off an impressive 90-72 win over South Alabama. They shot 54.9 percent (34-62) in the victory including 50 percent (11-22) from long range leading by as many as 28 in the second half. That night, Florida State claimed its first SoCon win topping Western Carolina 79-74.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
-
Matt Ryan has back-to-back 20-point efforts. He fell just two points shy of his career high with his 21 points at Troy and came back with 20 in the win over the Jaguars. Ryan scored 23 as a sophomore at Notre Dame against Chicago State, a possible Mocs opponent at the Emerald Coast Classic at the end of the month. Last Moc with back-to-back-to-back 20-point nights? Dixon with 20 against ETSU, 21 vs. Furman and 20 at The Citadel Jan. 6-13, 2018.
- Interesting schedule quirk with the first two games coming against Ohio Valley Conference squads - at Eastern Kentucky & Tennessee State - and the next two - at Troy & South Alabama - vs the Sun Belt. That stretch continues, in a way, with the shift to Power 5 conference opponents Florida State (Nov. 20) and Tennessee (Nov. 25). Both schools reached the Sweet 16 in last season's NCAA Tournament.
- Third 3-game win streak in the
Lamont Paris era. Did it twice last season, both times all in Chattanooga. Last time three in a row included a road win? 5-game run Jan. 5-21: Wofford (77-66), Furman (80-64), The Citadel (83-73), at Mercer (70-68) & Samford (82-78). That's also the last 4-game streak.
