Mocs Host The Citadel for Dollar Night & Campbell for Senior Day This Weekend

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team closes out its regular season home matches this weekend.  The Mocs host The Citadel on Friday, Feb. 8, and 25th-ranked Campbell on Sunday, Feb. 10.  UTC still has a shot at a share of the Southern Conference regular season title with two wins this weekend. 
 
Friday's match is Dollar Night at Maclellan Gym.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) with action beginning at 7:00 p.m.  All fans can get in for just $1 at the door (cash only).
 
Sunday is Senior Day against Campbell.  The Mocs will honor six seniors prior to the match starting at 2:00 p.m.  The six individuals competing in their last home match include Alonzo Allen, Jake Huffine, Jacob Murphy, Zach Shareef, Connor Tolley and Trey Watson.  The wrestling program is hosting a pregame tailgate outside of Maclellan Gym at Noon.  Be sure to stop by and join in the festivities. 
 
The Mocs are 5-6 overall, and 3-1 in SoCon action.  They are coming off a 21-14 setback at Appalachian State on Sunday.  UTC also has wins against Gardner-Webb (31-11), Davidson (34-9), VMI (32-8), Kent State (21-15) at the Virginia Duals and Edinboro (23-15) on Dec. 18. 
 
Three of the Mocs losses are from ranked opponents, including No. 21 UNC (10-23) on Nov. 11 and No. 13 Virginia Tech (4-35) and No. 16 Arizona State (16-22) at the Virginia Duals.
 
The Citadel is 1-7 overall and 1-1 in SoCon matches.  Their lone win was a 30-12 victory against Gardner-Webb on Jan. 23.  They lost to Campbell (38-6) on Sunday. 
 
The Camels are No. 25 in this week's Intermat Dual Meet rankings.  They are 5-0 overall and in first place in the SoCon race at 3-0.  They defeated Gardner-Webb 40-4 on Tuesday.

The Mocs are 38-3 all-time against The Citadel, 16-2 at home.  Chattanooga has won 14 in a row in the series with the last loss coming on Feb. 14, 1999, (27-13) at Charleston.

WEIGHT-BY-WEIGHT NOTES
125: Senior Alonzo Allen is the returning starter and defending SoCon Champion at 125.  He is battling sophomore Fabian Gutierrez for the starting role.  Allen won SoCon Wrestler of the Week after placing fifth at the Scuffle.  He is 20-6 overall and has also placed at the Hokie Open (2nd), the Wolfpack Open (6th) and the Cougar Clash (3rd). 
 
Gutierrez beat Allen in the finals of the Hokie Open and is 16-4 overall.  He climbed into the Intermat Top-20 at 125 prior to the Scuffle, where he went 3-2.  He also has a SoCon Wrestler of the Week honor to his credit this season and was No. 23 in the initial Coaches Panel Rankings.
 
Allen defeated The Citadel's Athony New (Tech Fall 20-4) at the Wolfpack Open in November.  Gutierrez has a win over Campbell's Korin Meink, a 6-4 decision at the Hokie Open earlier this year. 
 
133: Jake Huffine is looking to get back on track after a recent three-match slide.  He is 16-12 overall with two SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week honors and another SoCon Wrestler of the Week recognition.  He has a runner-up showing at the Cougar Clash and a sixth place finish at the Wolfpack Open.  Huffine earned UTC's Dayle May Award in January for having the highest student-athlete GPA.  He is a 4.0 student as an Accounting major. 
 
Huffine has another tall order against Campbell's Noah Gonser.  Gonser is 16-7 and ranked No. 20 by Intermat this week. 
 
141:  Junior Chris Debien posted a sixth place finish at the Southern Scuffle and was runner-up at the Cougar Clash.  He leads the Mocs with a 20-10 overall mark, including a fourth place finish at the Wolfpack Open.  The 2016 SoCon Champion has won 13 of his last 18 matches and is 4-0 in SoCon duals.
 
Debien has twice beaten Campbell's Nathan Boston.  He scored a 5-0 decision at last year's SoCon Tournament and a 5-2 in the 2018 dual meet. 
 
149:  Freshman Tanner Smith has won four of his last five matches and is 8-5 overall.  He has two pins and a major in his last three wins.  He had a close loss to App. State's Matt Zovistoski (3-1) on Sunday. 
 
Smith has a tall order on against Campbell when he faces No. 9 Josh Heil.  Heil is 18-7 overall, including a 9-5 win over Smith at the Hokie Open in November.
 
157:  Freshman Ryan Resnick has won two in a row and three of his last four to move to 8-11 overall.
 
Freshman Mason Wallace is 14-9 after placing fifth at the Wolfpack Open.  He was starting at 149, but moved up to 157 for three duals where he is 2-1.
 
Resnick lost to The Citadel's Rian Burris (13-8) at the Southern Scuffle in January. 
 
165:  Freshman Drew Nicholson is 7-9 overall and looking to snap a two-match slide.  He is 2-2 in SoCon action.  Senior Trey Watson is also listed as a probable.  He is looking for his first win in nine matches this season. 
 
174:  Freshman Hunter Fortner is 9-13, after splitting a pair of SoCon matches last week.  Against Campbell, Fortner faces No. 17 Andrew Morgan, who carries a 21-6 mark and 2-0 record in league duals.
 
184:  Junior Ben Stacey dropped down to 184 for the first time in his career.  He was 4-3 at 197 prior to going 0-2 at the Scuffle at 184.  He scored his first win at 184 against Gardner-Webb last week. 
 
Junior Dominic Lampe was back in the lineup at Appalachian State for the for the first time since the second match of the Virginia Duals.  He posted a solid 3-2 decision over ASU's Alan Clothier, preseason All-SoCon pick at 184.  Lampe is 12-10 overall.
 
197:  Junior Rodney Jones has dropped two in a row and is 15-15 overall.  He has a third place finish at the Cougar Clash and a pair of sixth place showings at the Wolfpack Open and the Hokie Open. 
 
Jones goes against Sawyer Root in The Citadel match.  Root leads the Bulldogs with a 29-13 record.  He narrolwy defeated Jones at the Hokie Open (3-2) and the Wolfpack Open (3-0).
 
285: Senior Connor Tolley was runner-up in the Wolfpack Open, falling to former NAIA All-American Ceron Francisco in the finals.  He also has a third place at the Cougar Clash and a sixth place finish at the Hokie Open.  Tolley moved to 14-13 with a split in two SoCon matches last week.  
 
Tolley is 2-2 against The Citadel's Michael McAleavey, including wins in their last two meetings.  Tolley posted a 3-2 decision at the 2018 SoCon Tournament and a 6-2 win at the 2017 Hokie Open.  McAleavey won twice in the 2016-17 season. 
 
Tolley beat Campbell's Laith Alsous (11-6) at the Hokie Open in November.  He has not faced the Camels' other probable, Odgerek Batkhishig.
