ABOUT CHATTANOOGA BASKETBALL
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs added to its roster this weekend signing Cleveland State University forward Stefan Kenić. The junior from Serbia has two years of eligibility remaining.
Kenić was available late in the summer after his head coach, Dennis Felton, was relieved of his duties at CSU. Coach
Lamont Paris and staff had a scholarship in their back pocket for just such an instance.
"He's a really high-character guy who just wants to compete and be good at basketball while enjoying the college experience," Paris started. "He's an accomplished player. Everything lined up perfectly with what we'd potentially be looking for. It was very late in the process, but we always had in mind that if we found the right guy, we'd use that scholarship.
"It was a surprise that a guy of his caliber person and player was available that late."
Kenić started 59 of his 66 Viking appearances over the last two seasons. He tallied 9.2 points and 4.1 rebounds in 23.3 minutes per game in 2018-19. He spoke of the opportunities on and off the floor at Chattanooga as the driving force to making the Gig City his new home.
"I came to the United States to be surrounded by good people...good coaches, good teammates," Kenić shared not slamming the last two seasons but responding to why Chattanooga was the next step in his career. "That's the most important thing to me. When I came here on the visit, I saw Coach Lamont and his staff and all the players were really good people. That was the main reason beside the style of basketball.
"In talking with Coach Lamont, I figured out he loves skilled players, bigs with skills who can shoot and dribble. That's my kind of game, that's why I felt I fit with this program."
The power forward has two years of eligibility as mentioned above. Kenić posted a remarkably consistent 9.3 points and 23.3 minutes per contest at CSU. He'll currently sit out the 2019-20 campaign.
He's the fourth transfer to join the program since the completion of the 2018-19 season. Stories on
