Three Mocs Earn Phil Steele Freshman All-American Honors

Three members of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team made the 2019 Phil Steele Freshman All-American squad that was announced today.

Running Back Ailym Ford, the 2019 SoCon Freshman of the Year, added to his impressive haul with a first team honor, while offensive lineman Colin Truett and long snapper Cody Olszewski made the fourth team.

Ford's postseason honors grow after leading all freshmen in the FCS with 108.1 rushing yards per game.  He tied for the team lead with nine rushing scores, while posting 1,081 rushing yards in 10 games.  He was just nine yards shy of the UTC freshman mark set by Mike Smith in 1977.  It was also the seventh highest total by a freshman in the SoCon record books.

His season was cut short due to an injury early in the Samford game, but he still managed to finish fifth in the voting for the Jerry Rice Award for national freshman of the year.  He was also the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and a first team All-SoCon selection.

Truett transferred from Cincinnati after redshirting the 2018 season.  He entered the lineup at right tackle against James Madison and then started the final eight games of the season.

Olszewski handled the majority of the long snapping duties as a true freshman throughout the season.  He was action in 11 of the Mocs 12 games.
