CHATTANOOGA--- The Chattanooga Mocs and Western Carolina Catamounts have a lot on the line this afternoon. The duo is tied with Mercer in fifth place in the Southern Conference.

It's a very tight SoCon race as we sit in the mid-point of the campaign. SEVEN teams are separated by a mere 2.5 games. Literally anything can happen.

There is an intriguing battle shaping up beyond the arc. In SoCon games only, Western (38.8%) is first and the Mocs second (38.3) from three. The Cats are second (29.1%) and Chattanooga third (30.6%) in 3pt percentage defense.

The Mocs look to avenge an 87-77 loss in Cullowhee in December. It was bitter defeat considering the Gig City lads led by seven, 59-52, with 9:17 to go. They were outscored 35-18 the rest of the way. Matt Ryan led the Mocs with 18, while Mason Faulkner paced the Cats with 31 including 21 in the final nine minutes.

Now the two meet with a top six spot in the standings on the line. Those first six teams at the end of the regular season receive byes in the first round of the SoCon Championships in Asheville.  Western is also playing for its second season sweep all-time against the Mocs (2017-18).

Chattanooga leads the Southern Conference in defensive rebound percentage (.763) That number is 77.7 percent (240/309) in league play and .821 over the last nine games (283/345). Western claimed 12 offensive rebounds in the first meeting with a .400 offensive rebound percentage.

The 2 p.m., tipoff in the Roundhouse airs on ESPN3 as well over the airwaves locally on WFLI 1070 AM/97.7 FM and the TuneIn app. The Catamounts contest is reunion weekend with the greats of the Mocs past returning to the Roundhouse.
