Softball Announces Staff Promotion, Addition Ahead of 2020 Season

Chattanooga softball elevates assistant Scottie Kilgore and adds Brianna Shoemake to its 2020 staff.

CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball program and head coach Frank Reed have officially announced staff promotions and additions ahead of the upcoming 2020 season.

Scottie Kilgore has been elevated to Associate Head Coach from an Assistant Coach position in which he held for the past five seasons. Working primarily with the offense, Kilgore joined the UTC staff in 2015 and helped lead the program to a pair of Southern Conference titles and NCAA Tournament appearances so far during his tenure (2015 & 2019).

"I'm so excited to move Scottie [Kilgore] into the Associate Head Coach position. He has done an awesome job here in Chattanooga and it's great to be able to reward him for his hard work," said Frank Reed.

"We've seen vast improvements on the field because of Scottie's contributions to the program. It's well deserved."

Brianna Shoemake, a 2013 Carson-Newman graduate, joined the Chattanooga softball program in the fall as an Assistant Coach. A catcher for Carson-Newman, Shoemake will look to add valuable expertise and leadership to UTC's catching and pitching department in 2020.

Shoemake started over 200 games for the Eagles from 2010-2013 and was named a Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-American in 2011. She batted north of .270 for her career with 19 homeruns and 160 RBI while throwing out 56-of-124 runners who tried to steal with her behind the plate.

"We're happy to add Brianna to our program. She brings vast experience to us being a Division II All-American catcher and a great hitter at Carson-Newman.

"We look forward to her contributing in numerous areas including working with our catchers, outfielders and some additional work with our pitchers," said Reed.

Chattanooga kicks off the 2020 season in less than a month with first pitch commencing at Jim Frost Stadium on February 8 against Austin Peay. UTC and Austin Peay will battle in a three-game series February 8-9.
