ABOUT CHATTANOOGA BASKETBALL
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs tackle a tough road test this weekend at Southern Conference co-leader Furman. The Paladins are tied with ETSU, one game ahead of UNC Greensboro. Wofford is fourth, one game clear of the trio of Chattanooga, Western Carolina and Mercer in the muddled race to the Ingles Southern Conference Championships presented by General Shale. The top 6 earn byes in the tourney's first round.
The Mocs have been offensive in the last two wins scoring 84 at Wofford before coming home to net 86 against VMI.
Matt Ryan leads the way at 15.1 ppg followed by
David Jean-Baptiste (12.8) and
Ramon Vila (12.3). Vila is on a heater posting 15.4 ppg over the last five shooting 66.7 percent from the field and 86.7 percent at the FT line.
Furman has one of the league's stingiest road venues. The Paladins are 11-1 in Timmons Arena and enter the contest leading the league in scoring offense at 78.3 ppg. Jordan Lyons leads four in double figures at 17.4 ppg. Noah Gurley (14.0), Clay Mounce (13.8) and Mike Bothwell (10.1) join him.
The Paladins won the
first meeting 73-66 in the Scenic City. The Mocs led 50-47 before a 8:57 scoreless stretch keyed a 14-0 Furman run. It got as close as four with 2:13 to play with the ball, but a Ryan three rimmed out and the Paladins held on for the win.
The Mocs enter Saturday's contest with hot hands. They're shooting 59.3 percent (51-86) INSIDE the 3pt line and 90.5 percent (57-63) from the FT line over the last three games. That last number is powered by the likes of Ryan (11-11),
Ramon Vila (11-12), Stefan Kenić (10-11) and
Maurice Commander (11-13) combining to make 43 of 47 (91.5%).
Furman owns the league's longest win streak at six in a row defeating Samford (101-78), at The Citadel (78-54), VMI (74-72 OT), Mercer (79-57), at Western Carolina (82-73) and at Samford (86-71). The 4:30 p.m., tipoff in Greenville airs on ESPN3 as well over the airwaves locally on WFLI 1070 AM/97.7 FM and the TuneIn app.

- 90th matchup all-time against the Paladins. That ties ETSU for third on the all-time opponents list behind Samford (101) and Western Carolina (95). Furman (54) is fourth on the wins against ledger behind The Citadel (66), Catamounts (66) and Bulldogs (62).
