ABOUT CHATTANOOGA BASKETBALL
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs close out the final four regular season games shifting back-and-forth from home to away. It starts at The Citadel Wednesday night before hosting Mercer Saturday. Same plan, different teams the following week at VMI Wednesday and coming home to tackle UNCG.
Chattanooga is currently tied in sixth with Mercer at 7-7, one game behind the fourth-place duo of Western Carolina and Wofford at 8-6. It currently can finish anywhere from tied to third to seventh with Ingles Southern Conference Championships presented by General Shale seedings up in the air for fourth through seventh. The top six teams earn a bye into the quarterfinals of the tournament.
First up are the Bulldogs. McAlister Field House proved to be a difficult venue over recent visits. The Mocs are 2-2 in Charleston winning in comeback fashion in 2016 and 2019, while losing in 2017 and 2018 (OT).
Last year's edition went to the final seconds with their hosts. Trailing by three with 3:54 to play, Chattanooga's charges held the Bulldogs scoreless with sterling defensive play by
Maurice Commander off the bench.
David Jean-Baptiste hit a three with 37 seconds left proving to be the game winner.
The Mocs have won two of the last three on the road - at Samford (92-84), Wofford (84-77). They're 7-8 away from Chattanooga including a 2-0 mark winning the Emerald Coast Classic in November. This squad is attempting to be just the 13th in the DI era (43 seasons) to play .500 or better outside Hamilton County.
Chattanooga claimed the first meeting 92-69 in Gig City. Vila led five in double figures with 17, while Rice paced the Bulldogs with 11. The 7 p.m., tipoff in Charleston airs on ESPN+ as well over the airwaves locally on WFLI 1070 AM/97.7 FM and the TuneIn app.
