ABOUT CHATTANOOGA BASKETBALL
CHATTANOOGA---One of the most anticipated games of the season is here. The Chattanooga Mocs and ETSU Bucs meet for the 90th time. It's a game both sets of fans circle heading into the season.
This is the second matchup between the two in 2019-20. ETSU won the first 75-64 in Johnson City in a game with wild shifts. The Bucs came out of the half with a 22-3 run to seemingly put the game away ahead by 27, 56-29, with 13:47 to play. A scrappy set of Mocs had other ideas.
They slowly chipped away at the deficit possession-by-possession on both ends of the floor. Eight straight defensive stops and efficient offense saw the Mocs get to within nine on
A.J. Caldwell's 3pt at 5:50.
After the eighth stop, the Mocs offense met strong resistance. As the shot clock neared zero,
Grant Ledford's three in front of the visiting bench was blocked by Bo Hodges who ignited the fast break. Davien Williamson's corner three in transition calmed the home team. Caldwell nailed another three 16 seconds later getting it back to nine with 4:31 to go. That's as close as it would get.
Just 11 days separate meetings between Chattanooga and ETSU. That's the quickest turnaround in SoCon play for the Mocs since the season sweep of VMI in 2016 (11). This season's breaks between the remaining league opponents: VMI (14 days), Samford (18), Wofford (24), The Citadel (28), Furman (38), UNCG (42), Mercer (49) and Western Carolina (60).
The 7 p.m., tipoff in the Roundhouse airs on ESPN+ as well over the airwaves locally on WFLI 1070 AM/97.7 FM and the TuneIn app.
