Southern Conference Basketball Tickets on Sale

The Chattanooga Mocs have a rich history of success in the Southern Conference Basketball Tournaments with special Asheville memories.

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs entered the Southern Conference in 1977. Over the previous 43 basketball seasons, their programs are the envy of the league. And it's not even close.

The men have 30 championships – 11 regular season, 11 tournament & eight division. Next on that list? Davidson (22-2/8/12). Next active member? ETSU with 17 (5/8/4) which is two more than half of the Mocs total. The rest of the league combined has 26 total: Wofford (9), UNCG (8), Furman (5), Western Carolina (4) with zero for The Citadel, Mercer, Samford and VMI over that span.

The women are even more dominant. TWENTY-TWO regular season crowns line the ladies' trophy cases. Yep, need more than one to house this hardware along with the 18 tournament titles. That's 40 championships in just 38 seasons because the first women's conference schedule was 1983-84. Spoiler alert, that was won by Chattanooga too. The two programs won the SoCon Tournament in 28 different years:

Both: 2016
Men: 1981, 1982, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2005, 2009
Women: 1984, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1992, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017

With all that success in the rearview, it's a good chance to look forward to another March dance card. Tickets are now on sale in the UTC Box Office for the Ingles Southern Conference Championships presented by General Shale. It's held in the Harrah's Cherokee Center Asheville in downtown Asheville.

"There are few things more exciting than March Madness," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Mark Wharton shared. "It's a special time for student-athletes, alums, fans…really anyone associated with teams. Everybody tips off with a chance to do something special.

"That's one of the things that drew me to Chattanooga. There are so many special memories. We look forward to creating more in the years to come."
