Softball Drops Doubleheader at Georgia State

Chattanooga suffered two defeats on Saturday at Georgia State.

ATLANTA, Ga. --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball team dropped a pair of games at Georgia State, 6-2 and 8-2, on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.

Following the losses, Chattanooga falls to 4-11 overall and has now dropped its last seven. Georgia State improves to 12-8 after the two victories.

Full game recaps are below.

GM1: GSU 6, UTC 2 | BOX
Kailey Snell and Emily Coltharp led off the top of the first for Chattanooga with a pair of singles, landing runners at first and second with no outs, but were left stranded. Georgia State plated a run in the home half of the first on an RBI single to left from Bailee Richardson to open the scoring.

Coltharp singled with runners on first and second and two outs in the second, but Adison Keylon was thrown out at the plate to thwart the scoring opportunity. The single would be the last hit for the Mocs until the final inning.

GSU's Skylar Mosel belted a two-run homer down the line in left in the bottom of the third to push the home team's lead to 3-0. The Panthers added three in the bottom of the sixth via a Daisey Hess homerun to left to extend out to a 6-0 lead.

Chattanooga rallied in the top of the seventh with lead off singles from Liz Rodebaugh and Gracey Kruse before Hayleigh Weissenbach laced a one-out triple to the gap in right, scoring two and cutting the deficit to 6-2. UTC couldn't continue its late spark and bowed out after a pair of hard-hit outs to the infield.

Kat Thompson (1-3) suffered the loss in the circle and tossed all 6.0 innings while allowing nine hits, six runs (five earned) and striking out four. Thompson stranded nine GSU runners including escaping a pair of bases-loaded jams.

Chattanooga finished with six hits and featured a pair of multi-hit games from Coltharp (2-for-4) and Weissenbach (2-for-2, 2 RBI). Snell ended 1-for-3 with an infield single to extend her hit streak to eight games.
