CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball team heads to Johnson City to face in-state rival ETSU in its first road Southern Conference series of the season this Friday and Saturday.

Friday's doubleheader is slated for a 2 p.m. ET start while Saturday's series finale first pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. ET.

Chattanooga (5-16, 1-1 SoCon) comes off a rain-shortened series and doubleheader split with Western Carolina to open conference play. The Mocs earned an 8-0 run-rule victory in game one before being shutout 2-0 in game two.

ETSU (13-8, 1-2 SoCon) dropped a pair of one-run ball games before earning a victory in the series finale at preseason league-favorite UNCG last weekend. The Bucs were picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll and are led by a veteran group of nine seniors.

MOCS OPEN SOCON PLAY WITH DH SPLIT

Chattanooga split its Southern Conference opening doubleheader with Western Carolina last weekend after seeing the three-game series shortened due to rain. The Mocs earned a run-rule 8-0 victory in game one before falling 2-0 in the nightcap. UTC moved its record to 5-16 overall in addition to the 1-1 league mark.

ABOUT THE ETSU BUCS
• ETSU is coming off a 7-2 win at UNCG on Saturday, salvaging a win in the series after dropping a pair of one-run games in a Friday doubleeader. The Bucs rosters consists of nine seniors including all-conference players in Nikki Grupp, Kelly Schmidt, Julia Fritz and Kelly Warren among others.

PITCHING CONTINUING TO IMPROVE

Hannah Wood tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout on Sunday in GM1's win over WCU, notching the first shutout of the season for Chattanooga. In GM2,
Brooke Parrott went 6.0 innings and surrendered just three hits and two earned runs during a 2-0 loss.
