CHATTANOOGA --- Juniors
Brooke Parrott and
Hannah Wood each fired complete game shutouts to help lead the Chattanooga Mocs softball team to a series-opening doubleheader sweep over in-state rival ETSU, 1-0 and 3-0, in Southern Conference action in Johnson City, Tenn., on a sunny Friday afternoon.

Following the sweep and series clincher, Chattanooga improves to 3-1 in league play and 7-16 overall. ETSU falls to 13-10 overall and 1-4 in SoCon action.

Parrott picked up her first complete game victory of the season after allowing just three hits and striking out four in game one's 1-0 victory. Wood clinched her second complete-game shutout in as many starts, surrendering only four singles while not walking a batter and striking out three.

Starting pitcher
Brooke Parrott earned her eighth start of the season in the circle and provided a stellar effort. Parrott faced just one over the minimum over the first three innings while picking up a pair of punchouts in the process.

Chattanooga didn't record its first hit of the game until the top of the fourth inning when
Liz Rodebaugh and
Cameren Swafford singled back-to-back to put runners at first and second with one out. UTC failed to cash in after consecutive pop-ups to the infield ended the threat.

After a scoreless fourth, ETSU loaded the based on a single and pair of walks with two outs. On a 1-2 count, Parrott got a swing and miss and recorded her fifth strikeout of the game to end the Bucs rally. (

Hayleigh Weissenbach singled to lead off the top of the sixth and later advanced to third on consecutive groundouts. With two outs and a 1-0 count,
Rayanna Janke posted her first career hit with an RBI single to left field which eventually would turn into the game winner. (

Parrott (2-5) stranded a pair of runners in the bottom of the sixth and allowed just a single in the seventh to notch her second victory of the season in complete game, shutout fashion. Parrott tied a season-high with five strikeouts and allowed just three hits while walking four.

Chattanooga singled five times in the game with hits from Janke (1-for-3, RBI), Swafford (1-for-2), Weissenbach (1-for-2), Rodebaugh (1-for-3) and
Adison Keylon (1-for-3).

Chattanooga opened up the scoring in the top of the first when
Hayleigh Weissenbach ripped a two-out RBI single to score
Adison Keylon from third and give UTC a quick 1-0 lead. Both teams went scoreless in the second and third frames before a
Rayanna Janke SAC fly to right in the top of the fourth extended the lead to 2-0.

Starting pitcher
Hannah Wood retired the first 10 batters before surrendering a pair of singles in the bottom of the fourth. Wood pitched out of the jam and stranded Bucs runners at the corners with an inning-ending groundout.

Chattanooga added a run in the top of the fifth when
Courtney Ball laced a two-out RBI single to right field which scored
Kailey Snell and added to the UTC lead, 3-0.
Wood battled through ETSU rallies in the fifth and sixth innings, ultimately retiring two runners in each of the frames to preserve the Mocs' lead. UTC turned a 4-6-3 double play in the fifth and made a few key defensive plays in the sixth to aid the effort.

Chattanooga stranded a pair of runners in the top of the seventh after looking for a few more insurance runs. Wood (4-4) slammed the door in the home half and capped off the complete game victory with a one-two-three inning. Wood allowed just four hits while striking out three and walking none.

The Mocs finished with five hits, led by Weissenbach who posted the lone multi-hit game with a 2-for-3, RBI performance. Ball (1-for-4, RBI),
Liz Rodebaugh (1-for-3) and
Kailey Snell (1-for-1, R) added the other three hits.
