Western Carolina Match Moved to Friday

Freshman Jessie Young.
An unfavorable weather forecast has moved the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's women's tennis match at Western Carolina up a day to April 9.  Originally scheduled for Saturday, April 10, the Mocs are now set to face the Catamounts at 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) on Friday in Cullowhee, N.C.

The Mocs enter the weekend with a 8-7 record and a 1-3 mark in SoCon action.  UTC is trying to snap a three-match slide and sit in fifth place in the league standings.  Chattanooga trails ETSU (12-8, 6-0 SoCon), Furman (17-6, 5-0), Wofford (9-5, 2-2) and Samford (10-9, 1-2).  The top four teams advance to the SoCon Tournament in Birmingham, Ala., on April 23-24.

The Catamounts are 7-6 overall and 0-3 in league play.  UTC is 35-1 all-time against Western Carolina.  The lone loss in the series was a 4-3 defeat on the last trip to Cullowhee on March 24, 2019.  The Mocs won last year's meeting 5-2 in Chattanooga.

Junior Emma Van Hee leads the team with a 16-7 singles record.  She is also 11-4 at No. 2 in the spring.  She teams with sophomore Caroline Gibbens at No. 1 doubles where they are 6-4.  Junior Bogdana Zaporozhets and freshman Jessie Young have an 8-5 record at No. 2 doubles.
