Men’s Basketball Hosts Murray State in Saturday Night Clash

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team finishes its three-game homestand with a matchup against perennial mid-major power Murray State on Saturday as part of a MBB/WBB doubleheader.

CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team wraps up a three-game homestand with a non-conference tilt against mid-major power Murray State on Saturday evening as part of a day-long doubleheader inside McKenzie Arena.
 
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+ which follows the women's contest against King Univ. at 1 p.m. ET. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
 
Chattanooga (2-3) is coming off a narrow, back-and-forth, 72-66 loss to Lipscomb (4-2) on Wednesday inside the Roundhouse. The Mocs and the Bisons each led for 16-plus minutes as the two teams saw 11 lead changes and 10 ties throughout the contest.
 
Jake Stephens led the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds while adding three assists during the loss. Demetrius Davis (12), Dalvin White (11) and Jamal Johnson (10) all reached double figures in scoring. UTC surrendered a 65.4% (17-of-26) field-goal percentage to Lipscomb in the second half and allowed 28 points in the paint over the final 20 minutes.
 
Murray State (3-2) enters the game on Saturday following a successful showing in last weekend's Myrtle Beach Invitational held in Conway, S.C. The Racers finished in third place with a 2-1 record, recording wins over Texas A&M (88-79) in the first round and Tulsa (77-60) in the consolation game.
 
The lone loss for Murray State in the Myrtle Beach Invitational came in buzzer-beating fashion against UMASS, 71-69. The Racers are led by Steve Prohm in 2022-23, who returns to MSU following a highly-successful four-year stint from 2011-15 in which he led the team to a 104-29 record during that span.

OPENING NOTES - LAST TIME OUT
Chattanooga dropped a 72-66 back-and-forth battle to in-state foe Lipscomb on Wednesday. The two teams featured 11 lead changes and 10 ties while the home team led the contest for 16:53 while the visitors led for 16:24. The Mocs were limited to a season-low 28.6% mark from three during the loss and finished shooting just 37.1% from the floor in total. The Bisons snapped a six-game skid to Chattanooga after the victory.
 
STEPHENS SURPASSES CAREER MILESTONE
Graduate big man Jake Stephens surpassed 1,500 career points during Wednesday's loss to Lipscomb. Stephens currently sits with 1,504 career points after totaling 1,416 points in the previous four seasons at VMI. In addition, Stephens has totaled 773 career rebounds, 297 assists and 159 blocks.
 
TALE OF TWO HALVES
Chattanooga surrendered a 65.4% (17-of-26) field-goal percentage to Lipscomb in the second half on Wednesday after limiting the Bisons to 28.1% (9-of-32) mark in the first half. Lipscomb attempted just two threes in the final 20 minutes and scored 28 of its 30 total points in the paint during the span. UTC finished the game knocking down just one of its last nine three-point attempts and ended with a season-low 28.6% (8-of-28) mark from deep.
 
TRIO OF SIGNEES INK COMMITMENT TO CHATTANOOGA
The Chattanooga program and head coach Dan Earl have announced the signing of three scholastic student-athletes as part of the early signing period in November. The Mocs added long, versatile slash-type players in Sean Cusano (6'8, G/F, Hilton Head, S.C.), Noah Melson (6'6, G, Alexander, Ga.) and Collin Mulholland (6'10, F, Victoria, Minn.). The trio joins current true freshmen Sam Alexis and Brody Robinson as Dan Earl's first five recruits as the bench boss at UTC.
