CHATTANOOGA – It was only a matter of time. Chattanooga Mocs volleyball sophomore libero Paige Gallentine has broken a program record with her sixth career Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week award as the league office announced the honor on Monday afternoon.
Gallentine secures the weekly award for the third time this season and sixth time of her career, breaking the previous program record of five set by Gallentine, Rachel Evans and Paula Passmore. Gallentine becomes the first player in program history to win the award three times in two different single seasons.
The Fenton, Mich., native finished the weekend with a blistering 6.14 digs per set average after totaling 43 digs in seven sets to help lead Chattanooga to a perfect 2-0 weekend inside Maclellan Gymnasium. She posted 27 digs and two aces in Saturday's 3-1 win over Western Carolina which following a 16-dig, two-ace performance in a 3-0 win over UNCG on Friday.
For the season, Gallentine ranks 18
th in all of NCAA Division I volleyball in total digs with 505. She climbed into eighth all-time in program history this weekend as she sits with 1,354 career digs in a UTC uniform, surpassing Melissa Green (2011-14) who finished her career with 1,341, and now sits 46 digs shy of tying
Megan Kaufman (2017-20) for seventh.
