Volleyball Adds Garrido and Wingenbach from Spring Transfer Portal

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Volleyball team picked up two more key players for the 2026 roster by way of the spring Transfer Portal on Wednesday, as Head Coach Julie Torbett Thomas announced the signings of Sophia Garrido and Delaney Wingenbach.

Garrido comes to Chattanooga as a graduate student, having spent four seasons at Arkansas Little Rock. On the other hand, Wingenbach is a transfer from Georgia Southern, coming in as a freshman, after early enrolling in the spring in Statesboro before deciding to come to UTC.

Sophia Garrido
Garrido is a Right Side that originally hails from San Juan, Puerto Rico and is listed at 5-foot-10. At Little Rock, Garrido played in 72 career matches and recorded 413 kills. This past season, she had her best season with the Trojans, recording 212 kills (1.83 per set). In the 2025 campaign, Garrido recorded 10 or more kills in six matches, including a career-high 17 kills against Chattanooga's newest SoCon opponent, Tennessee Tech. She also made an impact defensively, accounting for 51 total bocks in her final year with Little Rock, including four total blocks in the OVC Tournament against SEMO.

Garrido's parents are Moises and Yanina Garrido, and she has one older brother, Justen Garrido. She played high school volleyball in Arkansas at Cabot High School, and club volleyball with Little Rock Juniors, leading her team to the Volley International Title. She plans to pursue her Master's in Health Sciences while enrolled at UTC.

"I am excited to add Sophia to the pin group. She brings the experience we lost from our graduating seniors and adds a feisty attitude on the court while remaining a pleasant and sweet person off the court," Torbett Thomas said.

Delaney Wingenbach
Wingenbach is an Outside Hitter, listed at 5-foot-11, and a native of Gainesville, Florida. She had a standout career playing at Santa Fe High School under Head Coach Eric Marshall. Her senior year she was the Gainesville Sun - Big School Volleyball Player of the Year, and a First Team All-Area performer. For her final two seasons with the Raiders, Wingenbach accumulated 511 kills with a .262 hitting percentage. In those same two seasons, she recorded 158 digs and 54 total blocks. Wingenbach played club volleyball with Gainesville Juniors where she won both the USAV and AAU National Championships in 2024.

Delaney's parents are Jason and Shelisa Wingenbach. Jason was a College Basketball student-athlete at the University of Tampa from 1996-2000. She has one older sister, Chloe Wingenbach, who is 19. Wingenbach is planning on majoring in Finance at Chattanooga.

"Delaney will be a much-needed addition to our pin group. She is a strong passer, loves to play defense, and is eager to prove herself on the court," Torbett Thomas said.
