Men’s Basketball Aims for Third Straight, Travels to Gardner-Webb on Saturday

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team matches up with the Runnin’ Bulldogs for just the second time in program history and the first time since 2011.

CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team looks to make it three-straight when it travels to Boiling Springs, N.C., to face Big South-member Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon inside Paul Porter Arena. Tip-off has been rescheduled to Noon ET on ESPN+.
 
Chattanooga (4-3) earned its first road win of the season on Wednesday night after an 81-74 comeback victory at Tennessee Tech. The Mocs trailed by 11 at halftime before outscoring the Golden Eagles 47-29 in the second half, setting a new season-best for points allowed over the final 20 minutes.
 
UTC shot 80.0% (12-of-15) from the floor in the closing half and knocked down 77.8% (7-of-9) of its three-point attempts during the span. For the game, UTC attempted just 41 field goals which is the fewest in a game since 2014 and collected just one offensive rebound, the fewest since 1996.
 
Jake Stephens notched his second-straight 27-point effort behind a 7-of-10 shooting day from the floor and 10-of-12 performance from the line. He recorded his third-straight double-double with 10 rebounds, in addition to dishing a season-high six assists. He leads the team in PPG (20.3), RPG (9.1) & APG (3.1).
 
Gardner-Webb (2-5) makes its home debut in 2022-23 on Saturday when it hosts the Mocs after beginning this year's slate with seven-straight contests away from home. The Bulldogs defeated SoCon foe Western Carolina on Wednesday night, 71-55, in Cullowhee.

Over the last three games, Chattanooga and its opponents have combined for 33 lead changes and 21 ties over the 120 minutes of action. UTC and Lipscomb featured 11 lead changes and 10 ties last Wednesday with both teams leading the contest for 16-plus each. In Saturday's tilt against Murray State, the Mocs and Racers played to 14 lead changes and five ties. On Wednesday, UTC and TTU saw eight lead changes and six ties.
 
HISTORIC REBOUNDING PERFORMANCE... SORT OF
Chattanooga finished Wednesday's game at Tennessee Tech with just one offensive rebound. That amount is the fewest since putting up a zero against Furman back on January 27, 1996. Despite just one offensive board, UTC won the rebounding margin by a 32-26 tally.
