CHATTANOOGA – The Chattanooga Mocs' softball team defeated the Bucknell Bison on Friday afternoon in its first game of the Chatty's Patty's tournament at Frost Stadium. The Blue and Gold run-ruled the Bison 9-0 in five innings.
With the win, Chattanooga improved to 14-12, while Bucknell dropped to 3-17 after two losses on Friday.
The Mocs return to the diamond for day two of the tournament at 12:30 and 3 p.m. facing Southeastern Louisiana and Bucknell.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Olivia Lipari got the scoring started early in the game with a first-inning two-run homer over the center field wall.
The team hit around in the third inning, scoring seven runs on four hits and a handful of walks. In the third, Lipari singled to center to plate two runs, extending the Mocs' lead to 5-0 after
Adison Keylon scored on a wild pitch earlier in the at bat.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the third,
Gracey Kruse hit a grand slam for her first career of the season to put the Mocs up 9-0.
Brooke Parrott got the start for the Blue and Gold and tossed four shutout innings in the circle. She picked up her eighth win of the season allowing just two hits and striking out a pair in her four innings of action.
Emily Coltharp and Lipari both went 2-for-3. Keylon and Kruse registered the other hits for Chattanooga.

Notable:
- Lipari's home run was the fourth of the season for the freshman. It tied her for a team-lead with Kaili Phillips.
- The grand slam off the bat of Kruse was the first of her career and the Mocs' second of the season. Phillips hit the last grand slam on Feb. 26 vs. Butler.
- Emily Coltharp began the game with a triple, the first of her four-year career. She extended her team-leading hit streak to seven straight games.
- Eight of the nine Mocs in the starting lineup scored a run.
- Chattanooga shutout its opponent for the fourth time this season and first since a 4-0 win over Southern Illinois on Feb. 25.
Series history:
This was the first-ever meeting between Chattanooga and Bucknell.
