CHATTANOOGA – The Chattanooga Mocs' softball team wrapped up its Chatty's Patty's tournament on Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 win over the Southeastern Louisiana Lions at Frost Stadium.
Chattanooga improved to 16-13, while Southeastern Louisiana fell to 18-9.
The Mocs play a midweek on Wednesday at Lipscomb before returning to Frost Stadium this weekend vs. Furman for the first weekend of Southern Conference action. The series begins on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the third time this weekend, Chattanooga scored in the first.
Olivia Lipari blasted a two-run home run over the left field wall, giving the Mocs an early 2-0 advantage.
In the third frame, UTC loaded the bases and
Kaili Phillips drew a bases-loaded walk as
Skylar Berkhiser crossed the plate for the second time in the game, scoring the Mocs' third run.
The Lions scored two runs on a wild pitch in the fourth inning. With two runners in scoring position and one out,
Hannah Wood came into the circle to relieve
Izzy Alley. On her second pitch, Wood got the batter to ground to short, where
Emily Coltharp threw out a runner at home before
Liz Rodebaugh threw out the batter trying to advance to second. In the middle of the fifth, UTC led 3-2.
In the bottom half, Rodebaugh turned her defense into offense, driving in
Bailey Myers from third with a sacrifice fly, doubling the Chattanooga lead to 4-2.
Down to their final out, the Lions' Madison Rayner homered to cut SLU's deficit to one.
Wood got the final batter to ground out to short to pick up the second save of her career and the first this season. Alley got the win in the circle, her third of the season in her 10
th start. She allowed two runs on four hits in 4.1 innings of work. The freshman struck out two and walked four.
Lipari went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Mocs offensively.

After splitting the series this weekend, Chattanooga and SLU are 1-1 all-time against one another.
