CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team cruised its way to a 6-1 rout over in-state foe Austin Peay in the non-conference finale of the season on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon at the UTC Tennis Center.
 
Following the win, Chattanooga improves to 6-15 overall this season. Austin Peay fell to 5-7 following the defeat.
 
"I'm really proud of the guys bouncing back after our last match. They took care of their business, and learned a few things before our next match," said head coach Chuck Merzbacher following the match.
 
In doubles action, the Mocs secured the match's first point after seeing Simon Labbe and Jordan McClure earn a 6-4 clincher as the No. 2 pair. Tomas Rodriguez and Ryan Mudre, playing in the No. 3 hole, teamed up for the first victory of the day in doubles in a dominating 6-1 fashion.
 
It was nearly a clean sweep of all six singles matches with Rodriguez kicking off the charge behind a 6-1, 6-1 decision in the top spot. Jacob Marshall posted a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory at the bottom of the singles lineup ahead of a Simon Labbe 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 3, a win that clinched the team's fourth and match-deciding point.
 
"Our senior Jacob [Marshall], who has been here for five years, step in and as always, doing what is asked of him to help the team. He played great in his singles match at No. 6," added Merzbacher.
 
Ryan Mudre and Kerim Hyatt each recorded victories in the No. 5 and No. 3 singles positions, respectively. Mudre scored his was to a 6-4, 6-1 victory while Hyatt worked hard to post a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 tiebreaking win.
 
Chattanooga finishes out the regular season on Saturday, April 16 when it faces Southern Conference member UNCG at the UTC Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 12 p.m. ET and will feature 'Senior Day' pre-match recognition.
