SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The University of Tennessee Chattanooga showcased an excellent year in the classroom during the 2021-22 term with 201 total student-athletes landing on the Southern Conference Honor Roll, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

The 201 total selections are second-most on record at UTC, trailing the 216 mark hit in the spring of 2021. Chattanooga also notched a new school record with 39 student-athletes posting an annual 4.0 GPA, the most among all SoCon league members.
 
The SoCon also awards student-athletes who attain a 3.8 GPA or higher throughout the academic year with the SoCon Commissioner's Medal. UTC saw 70 student-athletes honored with the Commissioner's Medal.
 
Originating in 1988-89, the SoCon Honor Roll became a way to recognize the conference's outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of individuals who participated in varsity sports and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher for the academic year, were eligible the entire academic year and were members of the final squad lists.

The award is different from the academic all-conference teams, which was announced on Tuesday, and is determined by cumulative GPA and involves a participation requirement.

SoCon Honor Roll
- 201 overall is second-most on record, trailing the 216 in the spring of 2021.
- School-record 39 with a 4.0 gpa of the Academic year.
- 23 members of the women's cross country/track & field teams making the SoCon Honor Roll is a program record.
- Football had 47 make the SoCon Honor Roll … third highest mark in program history … last four years have all been 40 or above … program-record with six at a 4.0 GPA.
- Men's golf had eight make the SoCon Honor Roll, tying for second-most in program history … multiple 4.0s for the first time.
- Softball set a program record with five earning a 4.0 GPA.
- Men's tennis had 10 make the SoCon Honor Roll … third semester in a row with 10+ … tied a program mark with three 4.0s.
- 10 members of the women's tennis team making the SoCon Honor Roll is a program record … also set a team mark with four 4.0s.
- Wrestling had 17 make the SoCon Honor Roll … third most for the program on record.
