Women's Tennis Opens 2023 Campaign at Asheville on Sunday

The Chattanooga Mocs women’s tennis team heads to Asheville to open 2023 spring play.

CHATTANOOGA --- It's springtime, whether the temperature agrees or not. The Chattanooga women's tennis team is set to kick off the 2023 campaign with a matchup at UNC Asheville on Sunday afternoon at The Asheville Racquet Club Downtown. First serve is slated for 3 p.m. ET.

Chattanooga is coming off a 14-9 overall season in which the team advanced the Southern Conference semifinal round for the first time since 2018. The Mocs are eager to return to action for the first time since concluding the fall portion of the schedule in October.

The team is excited to compete this weekend. The women have had high energy every day at practice and things are already coming together," said head coach Chad Camper.

"UNCA has a great program, so it will be a very competitive first match if the season."

Chattanooga features a mix of returners and newcomers to the 2023 spring roster and carries a lone senior in Caroline Gibbens. Newcomers Rozalie Dohnalova (Northwestern State transfer), Lucia Garrigues-Melendez (USF transfer) and Pippa Bosman (true freshman) are set for their first competition in a UTC uniform.

The Bulldogs finished the 2022 season 13-6 overall and 4-4 in Big South competition and were slotted to finish second in the 2023 Big South preseason coaches' poll. The squad, similar to Chattanooga, advanced to the semifinal round of the conference tournament before falling to the top seed.

Match results will be available on GoMocs.com following the conclusion of action on Sunday.
