Men’s Basketball Travels to League-Leading Furman on Wednesday Night

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team heads to first-place Furman on Wednesday night.

CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team gets ready for its second road contest of a three-game away stretch when it heads to Greenville, S.C., to face league-leading and preseason favorite Furman on Wednesday night inside Timmons Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

Chattanooga (12-11, 4-6 SoCon) snapped a four-game skid when it went on the road Saturday and defeated in-state rival ETSU 73-64 inside Freedom Hall in Johnson City, Tenn. The win surprisingly gave the Bucs its eighth-straight home loss which set a school record for the team up north.

The Mocs were led by starting point guard Dalvin White who scored a team-high 15 points which included a timely three that put UTC up four, 68-64, with just under a minute-and-a-half left in the contest. White currently leads NCAA Division I in assist-to-turnover ratio with a 3.76 tally.

UTC played on Saturday without the SoCon's leading scorer and rebounder Jake Stephens for the third-straight game as the big man recovers from injury. Chattanooga featured a balance offensive attack in Stephens absence as seven different Mocs scored at least six points during the win on Saturday.

Furman (17-6, 8-2) enters Wednesday's contest on a redhot winning streak after winning its last four games which included three away from home. The Paladins, who were crowned the SoCon preseason favorites, pulled into a tie for first in the regular season standings following a 69-57 win over UNCG on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT
Chattanooga (12-11, 4-6 SoCon) snapped a four-game skid with a 73-64 road victory at in-state rival ETSU on Saturday afternoon inside Freedom Hall. UTC handed the Bucs its eighth-straight home loss which set a school record. Playing without big man Jake Stephens for the third-straight game, Dalvin White led the team with 15 points while Jamal Johnson and Sam Alexis added 12.

1,000 POINT SCORERS
Chattanooga featured two guys who surpassed 1,000 career points during Wednesday night's game against Wofford. Both Jamal Johnson and Dalvin White reached the 1,000-point milestone as the duo finished with 22 and 13 points, respectively, during the contest. Johnson totaled 712 points prior to transferring to UTC between stops at Memphis, Auburn and UAB. White racked up 818 points during his four-year tenure at USC Upstate.

BENCH POINTS PROVE SIGNIFICANT
Without Jake Stephens, Chattanooga has looked to the bench to provide additional scoring as the Mocs in reserve outscored the Bucs 28-9 during Saturday's win. The +19 margin is the most against a DI opponent this season.

THREE-POINT BENCHMARK
After shooting 52.2% (12-of-23) from deep during Saturday's win, Chattanooga improved to a perfect 8-0 this season when shooting 40.0% or better from deep which includes a 4-0 mark in SoCon play. The 52.2% effort on Saturday marked the most efficient 3PT shooting day inside league play this year.

STEPHENS REACHES CAREER MILESTONE FEW ACHIEVE
Graduate transfer Jake Stephens became just the 23rd player in NCAA Division I basketball over the past 25 season to accomplish a certain feat. Stephens surpassed 1,800 career points, 900 career rebounds and 200 career blocks following last week's contest against Furman. Stephens is the active leader in the Southern Conference in career points (1,851), rebounds (934), blocked shots (200), assists (355) and 3-point FGs made (231).
