CHATTANOOGA HISTORY IN THE SOUTHERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The men have 31 championships – including an exciting last second win in the 2022 SoCon Tournament - since joining the Southern Conference in 1977 – 11 regular season, 12 tournament and eight division. Next on that list? Davidson (22-2/8/12). Next active member? ETSU with 17 (5/8/4) which is two more than half of the Mocs total. The rest of the leagueÂ
combined has 27Â
total: Wofford (9), UNCG (9), Furman (5), Western Carolina (4) with zero for The Citadel, Mercer, Samford and VMI over that span.
Â
The women became members of the Southern Conference when the NCAA began hosting women's championships in 1982. However, the first league title was not awarded until 1984. UTC won both the regular season and tournament titles that year as well as the next two. The Mocs have won the regular season 22 times and added 18 tournament crowns to that list for 40 over the last 39 years. The next closest is former member Appalachian State (12 - 6/6). Mercer is the next closest active member with five regular season titles and four tournament crowns since joining the league in 2014-15. Marshall (6 - 5/1), Furman (6 - 4/2), Georgia Southern (5 - 3/2), UNCG (4 - 3/1), Samford (4 - 2/2), Western Carolina (3 - 1/2), ETSU and Davidson, one regular season title each.
