Conroy Earns SoCon Weekly Honor

Senior Paul Conroy is Southern Conference Golfer of the Week after leading the Chattanooga Mocs at the Furman Intercollegiate.

SPARTANBURG, S.C.---Chattanooga Mocs senior Paul Conroy is the Southern Conference Golfer of the Week the league office announced Wednesday. It's for all competitions from Oct. 18-24. It's Conroy's second such honor in 2023-24 in as many events, third of his career.
"Well deserved for Paul to receive another SoCon Golfer of the Week honor," Coach Blaine Woodruff stated. "Really proud of how he responded this fall to the adversity of not qualifying for the first event. He used it as motivation and finished third in Cincinnati and then picked up his second college win at Furman.
"He'd be the first to admit he didn't have his best stuff this week, but his composure, competitiveness and his short game that he's worked so hard on, led him to this honor. Really proud of the player and competitor he has become."
Conroy shot a season-low 205, 8 under, for his 54 holes. He finished one shot ahead of teammate Sam Espinosa in second and two clear of – you guessed it – teammate John Houk in third. It was the first 1-2-3 finish on record for the program.
The jewel of the week was his second round 64 on Monday. He penciled seven birdies and 11 pars on his card to lead the squad to a 12-under 272, it's lowest score of the season. That was in the afternoon after a 1-under 70 to start his tournament in the first 18 of the 36-hole day.
For the week, he played par or better on 50 of 54 holes (92.6%) with 12 birdies, 38 pars and four bogeys. The biggest birdie came on his 54th hole securing the outright win. His record vs. the field so far this campaign is 176-2 (.989).
The Mocs are back to the tee in Loxley, Ala., this Saturday at the Steelwood Collegiate. The 2-day, 54-hole event concludes Sunday.
