Postgame Quotes

Dan Earl, Head Coach
Overall statement after 68-63 win over Tennessee Tech.
"Credit to Coach Pelhprey and Tennessee Tech. They messed with us early when it came to their defense, they went zone and then they went man. We have eight new faces and trying to figure all that out, it's a challenge. I apologized to the guys for us coaches not being prepared for that. Once we settled down, we didn't quite play our best game. I thought Sam Alexis was great tonight scoring and rebounding the ball."

On gutting out close wins.
"To be honest, I feel a little guilty addressing the team after wins. We're 4-0 and there's a lot of really good things, and you could be 0-4 and not playing sharp or crisp basketball, and we're 4-0. I'm really proud of them for that. We have something really good within the fiber of the team to pull some games out like this. I think we'll continue to learn and grow from it, watch film, and just try to get better."

On the growth of Sam Alexis.
"He's improved in all facets. If you get to know him, he's a wonderful young man, he's got a great smile, he comes to work every day and he works hard. A lot of this stuff is coming at him fast. For him to handle the small successes, it's huge for his consistency. The thing that I like the best is his rebounding effort night-in and night-out. He's playing more controlled and that's big for a sophomore. He's going to continue to get better."

Honor Huff, So.-G
On knocking down first three at home.
"It feels like that 'finally' feeling. I hadn't hit a three in the first two games, and being a shooter, going 0-for hurts. Being able to see one fall through felt great, it felt like I got the top off the lid and was able to hit more shots and open up my teammates. It boosted the team's morale, and we went from there."

On the defensive efforts.
"He [Coach Earl] gets into us, he gets on us to sit down, get in the gaps, be in front of your man. Team defense is all about getting in the gaps and staying in front of your man, rotating. Being able to trust your teammate to have your back, it's big. It really gets us going and it propels our offense. Having each other's back is what we emphasize the most.
