Â
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs split their final dual matches of 2023 Saturday afternoon in Maclellan Gym. A 30-11 loss to Little Rock was followed by a dominating 44-3 triumph over Queens.
Â
"I don't think we were confident as much as we needed to be in the positions where we've been practicing," Coach
Kyle Ruschell stated after the duals. "We need to continue to grow there. I know we're young, but that can't be an excuse.
Â
"We got to get on the head more and do what we practice."
Â
The Mocs day started with Little Rock. They took turns winning matches from 125 through 165. Late takedowns by
Blake Boarman (133) and
Kamdyn Munro (165) produced major decisions knotting the score at 11-all. The Trojans were better down the stretch. A narrow loss for
Sergio Desiante at 174 was followed by two tech falls to clinch the win for the Trojans.
Â
The squad transitioned into the final bouts against Queens. The Mocs opened with tech falls by
Ty Tice (125), Boarman (133) and
Dayne Dalrymple (141) to get the dual firmly in hand. Munro's major at 165 clinched the victory.
Â
The lower weights were again key for the Mocs scoring 26 of the 55 points on the day with three tech falls and a major going 6-2 from 125-149.
Â
"I think those guys just have a little bit more confidence in what we're doing," Ruschell added. "Our upper weights need to continue to grow, try to follow suit and then just believe completely in what we're teaching."
Â
Little Rock opened the action with a 55-0 win over the Royals. No match reached the third period in the matchup.
