CHATTANOOGA---The Southern Scuffle presented by Compound Sportswear is back opening the 2024 calendar year for 21 NCAA Division I wrestling programs. It's 20th Scuffle and 12th in the friendly confines of McKenzie Arena.
 
The Chattanooga Mocs plan to enter 25 student-athletes in the 10-class brackets headlined by No. 10 Noah Castillo and No. 15 Brayden Palmer. Castillo looks for his first top 8 finish in the event, while Palmer eyes his third consecutive podium.
 
Palmer is trending in the perfect direction judging by past results. He finished third in 2022 and runner-up a year ago at 133 and won 11 of his last 12 Scuffle matches. Palmer captured the Clarion Open title in November at 125.
 
They're not alone. Blake Boarman puts his perfect 6-0 mark on the line at 133. Kamdyn Munro, 8-2 at 165, and Sergio Desiante, 7-2 at 174, continue to battle for the team lead in wins. Half of the Mocs lineup are making their first Scuffle appearances as the chance to claim starting berths for the 11 remaining duals is apparent.
