MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. --- Freshman pitcher
Peja Goold threw a gem Sunday morning at the Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Fla., and it took eight innings for the Chattanooga softball team to come away with a 2-1 win over Lafayette.

Goold struck out 12 batters through 7.1 innings of work and fellow rookie
Taylor Long came on in relief to add another strikeout to the total. Chattanooga had two runs on eight hits with RBIs from
Olivia Lipari and
Acelynn Sellers in the eighth.

Lafayette got on the board first in the eighth. The Leopard's placed runner at second to start the extra inning, reached third on a wild pitch. Goold struck out the next batter, but a bunt single gave Lafayette a 1-0 lead.

With two more reaching, Long came in and got the next two out to end the threat.

Emily Coltharp was placed on second in the bottom of the eighth for Chattanooga.
Zoe Wright's lead off single placed runners at first and third with no outs. Lipari lofted a hit to center field that popped out of the fielder's glove, sent Coltharp home for the tying run. The Mocs next batter, Sellers', doubled in Wright from second for the walk off win.

Chattanooga improves to 12-7 overall and have won its last three games.

The Mocs will take a couple of days off before resuming play Wednesday against Princeton at 10:00 a.m. That will be followed with a 12:30 game against Lehigh to close out the Spring Games.

Chattanooga will remain in Florida for a three-game series against Florida Gulf Coast Thursday and Friday before returning home.
