CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team is set to open Southern Conference play this weekend during its first of two road matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Mercer and Clemson, respectively.
Â
Chattanooga will take on Mercer in Macon, Ga., at 12 p.m. ET after the original 10 a.m. ET start time was delayed due to weather. The Mocs will then head to Clemson to take on the Tigers in its final non-conference match of the season on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET.
Â
Chattanooga (11-2, 0-0 SoCon) is looking to bounce back from a 4-1 loss at Austin Peay last Saturday as the defeat snapped an eight-match winning streak. UTC will aim to win its third-straight SoCon opener on Saturday.
Â
"We have some tough matches ahead this weekend," said head coach
Chad Camper. "It's always great to get into conference play against Mercer. They are an older team with a lot of experience, and it will take great focus on every court for us to find success."
Â
Chattanooga holds a 14-1 all-time record against Mercer (6-6, 0-0 SoCon) with its first meeting coming back in 1995. UTC enters the weekend winners of 13-straight dating back to its lone loss on April 9, 2006.
Â
Turning its attention to Clemson (11-6, 1-5 ACC), Chattanooga will meet the Tigers for the sixth time in program history and first since a 6-1 loss back on February 18, 2018. UTC is 1-4 all-time against Clemson with the first matchup dating back to 1979.
Â
"It's exciting to go up against such a high-quality team," said Camper. "It will truly be about the little things during that match in order to have an opportunity to win on each court."
