BLACKSBURG, Va. --- The Chattanooga softball team fell 4-1 and 9-5 to Virginia Tech Saturday at Tech Softball Park, closing out a three-game series with the Hokies.
 
Chattanooga hit .254 Saturday with 15 hits and six RBI. Kaili Phillips hit .429 (3-for-7) for the Mocs with a pair of RBI. Addy Keylon was 2-for-5 (.400) on the day with a solo home run and Shayna Glass made one start and hit 2-for-5 with appearances in both games.
 
GAME 1: VIRGINIA TECH 4, CHATTANOOGA 1
Chattanooga held Virginia Tech hitless through three innings and didn't allow a run until the fifth in the first game Saturday. The Hokies, however, got on the board first with a two-run homer in the fifth and another pair of runs in the sixth to take a 4-0 lead over the Mocs.
 
With two outs in the top of the seventh, Shayna Glass pinch hit for Jayce Purdy and singled to third. Presley Williamson walked behind her to put two on for pinch hitter Anna Dovey. Dovey's hit dropped into center field and scored Glass to make it 4-1.
 
That's as far as it would get for the Mocs. Addy Keylon walked to load the bases, but and ground out to the pitcher ended the game.
 
Phillips, Glass, Hannah Pfeifer and Dovey each had a hit in the game with three walks. Peja Goold went all six innings, striking out five and giving up seven hits. She falls to 4-5 on the year.
 
GAME 1: SCORING SUMMARY
B5th: Chavez homered to left center, 2 RBI; Bailey scored
B6th: Fagan singled up the middle, RBI; Ritter advanced to second; Greene scored.
B6th: Aldridge singled up the middle, RBI; Fagan advanced to third; Ritter scored.
T7th: Dovey singled to center field, RBI; Wright advanced to third; Glass scored.
 
GAME 2: VIRGINIA TECH 9, CHATTANOOGA 4
The Mocs made a late game rally, but it wouldn't be enough at UTC fell 9-5 to the Hokies in the final game of the series Saturday afternoon.
 
Virginia Tech started the scoring early with two runs in the first, scoring on a sac fly and a single to make it 2-0.
 
The Mocs had runners reach on singles in the first and second inning, stranding both. The Hokies went three-up, three-down in the second. The Mocs had two more reach, this time on errors, in the third, but still couldn't get across the plate.
 
In the fourth, VT added three more runs with a two-run homer to center field and a sac fly to make it 5-0.
 
Keylon led off the top of the fifth with a solo shot to get on the board. The Mocs would get another run in the inning. Kailey Snell reached on a fielding error by the second baseman. She got thrown out on a close fielder's choice at second, allowing Emily Coltharp to reach. A pair of singles loaded the bases with one out.
 
Acelynn Sellers had an infield hit to the shortstop, scoring Coltharp from third. With one out, Dovey lined a hard hit to the first baseman who caught the ball and reached back to the back to double up Sellers.
 
Virginia Tech stretched the lead to 9-2 in the fifth with a grand slam.
 
The Mocs loaded the bases in the sixth with singles from Glass, Keylon and Snell. Coltharp reached on a fielder's choice, with Snell getting thrown out at second and Glass scoring from third to make it 9-3. Olivia Lipari drew a walk to load the bases once again and Phillips' single through the left side sent two home to pull the Mocs to within four at 9-5.
 
The Mocs had 11 hits to the Hokies five in the game. Phillips, Williamson and Keylon had two each. Phillips had two RBI, Keylon, Coltharp and Sellers had one each.
 
Taylor Long had the start and falls to 4-3 on the year. She pitched three innings, faced 16 and struck out two. Izzy Ally came in for 1.2 innings, had one hit and struck out two as well. Alyssa Lavdis came on for 1.1 innings of work, faced five, struck out two and didn't give up a hit or run.

B1st: Bailey singled, advanced to second on the throw; Fagan advanced to third, scored on a throwing error by 1b, unearned.
B4th: Greene homered to centerfield, 2 RBI; Louko scored.
B4th: Aldridge flied out to cf, SF, RBI; Peck scored, unearned.
T5th: Keylon homered to left center, RBI.
T5th: Sellers singled to shortstop, RBI; Phillips advanced to second; Lipari advanced to third; Coltharp scored.
B5th: Peck homered to left field, 4 RBI; Greene scored; Bennett scored; Martin scored.
T6th: Coltharp reached on a fielder's choice to second base, RBI; Snell out at second 2b to ss; Keylon advanced to third; Glass scored.
T6th: Phillips singled through the left side, 2 RBI; Lipari advanced to second; Coltharp scored; Keylon scored.
 
UTC outhit Virginia Tech 27-19 over the three-game series, had two home runs, 13 runs scored. The Mocs drop to 14-13 overall and will return home to host Lipscomb on Wednesday, March 29 at Warner Park. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
