Braedon Wear and the Chattanooga Mocs head to the tee Sunday to start the Southern Conference Championships.

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team turns its attention this week to the Southern Conference Championships. The 3-day, 54-hole event starts Sunday with 18 holes per day ending Tuesday at the Oconee Course in Eatonton, Ga.
The program is a 6-time champion in the event. The most recent one came at Daniel Island (S.C.) Club in 2013 with the first five spanning 1987, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012. Two individuals have won medalist in Donnie Green, in the Mocs first appearance in 1978, and PGA Tour pro Stephan Jaeger '12 in 2012.
This year's lineup features John Houk, Paul Conroy, Braedon Wear, Garrett Engle and Samuel Espinosa. Senior Alex Cobb serves as alternate with each team allowed six entries with the potential for a substitute prior to any round.
The lineup is responsible for two of Chattanooga's four wins in 2022-23. As luck would have it, it's the lineup on a 2-tournament win streak capturing the Wofford Intercollegiate in dominant, record-breaking fashion followed by an impressive win at the Hoosier Collegiate. This quintet has turned in the low round of the day over six straight cards.
It shapes up to be quite a battle for the team title. Four teams rank in the top 60 in the Golfstat rankings. ETSU is at No. 33 followed by Chattanooga (47), UNC Greensboro (48) and Furman (59).
The Mocs open play at 1:35 p.m., Sunday afternoon playing with the Bucs. Espinosa leads off followed in 10-minute intervals by Engle, Wear, Conroy and Houk. - The Mocs have won last two starts at Wofford and Indiana. The last time winning three in a row? 2007-08. The third title? SoCon Championships.
- Four team wins in 2022-23 is one shy of the school record set 2007-08. That fifth win was the SoCon title.
