Mocs Softball Sweeps Georgia State with Power

DECATUR, Ga. --- The Chattanooga softball team scored nine of its 10 runs on five home runs Wednesday afternoon and earned a sweep of Georgia State at the Bob Heck Field.
 
The Mocs batted .300 with 18 hits, five home runs and nine RBI against the Panthers winning the first game 5-4 behind Acelynn Sellers' grand slam. In the second game, Chattanooga hit four home runs, three solo shots to claim a 5-1 victory.
 
Acelynn Sellers was 4-for-8 (.500) on the day with a grand slam. Jayce Purdy hit .429 (3-7) with a two-run shot in game two and Addy Keylon connected on two solo shots in game two and was 2-for-5.
 
GAME ONE: CHATTANOOGA 5, GEORGIA STATE 4
Chattanooga scored all five of its runs in the top of the third and the Panthers struck back in the fifth but fell short.
 
The Mocs loaded the bases on three singles and a fielder's choice, bringing Kaili Phillips to the plate with two outs. She reached on a fielding error by the short stop sending Addy Keylon home for the first run.
 
In the next at bat, Acelynn Sellers took the first pitch over the fence in left center for her first career grand slam.
 
The Panthers scored a run on an error and a three-run shot with two outs to draw within one run, 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth. Taylor Long sat the next seven batters down in order to get the win.

GAME TWO: CHATTANOOGA 5, GEORGIA STATE 1
Addy Keylon bookended the Mocs four home runs getting her first, a solo shot over the fence in right center, putting Chattanooga on the board first in the top of the third. She battled at the plate taking an 0-2 count to full then fouling off the next two before lacing the ball over the fence.
 
In the fourth, Kaili Phillips led off with a solo home run to left field. Sellers followed with a single up the middle and Purdy turned on the first pitch for a two-run shot to dead center. With two outs, Keylon homered to center field to put the Mocs up 5-0.
 
Georgia state scored on a triple in the bottom of the inning but stranded four runners over the next 3.2 innings.

Chattanooga improves to 17-16 on the year and returns home to host Western Carolina in a three-game Southern Conference series with a double-header on Thursday. First pitch is at 4:00 p.m. with game two to follow. With renovations still taking place at Frost Stadium, the games will be played at Warner Park on Field #3.
