Mocs Wrap Up Flames Invitational on Soggy Saturday

Emma Russum ran her first 3000 meter Steeplechase at the Flames Invitational
CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga track team wrapped up competition Saturday at the Ray Conn Track in Cleveland, Tenn., on the final day of the Flames Invitational hosted by Lee University on a rainy Saturday.

"Today the weather again showed us no improvement," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "This Lee Meet, despite the weather, was a very good meet for us."

Eamonn O'Bryant ran his second-ever 3000 meter Steeplechase and showed significant improvement with a personal record 9:54.94, a more than 25 second improvement. Emma Russum ran her first-ever steeplechase.

"Emma, at her first attempt ever in the steeple, had a very respectable time and placing," Meyer said. "She only had one bad water jump. As she improves in her jumps she will have a shot for a very good placing at the conference meet.

"Eamonn was much better over the barriers and did much better at pacing."

Freshman Lexi Foley ran an outdoor PR in the 800 meter at 2:28.91, winning her heat while Emmy Davis finished in a time of 2:31.04.

"Lexi and Emmy ran a soggy 800 for us," Meyer said of his middle distance runners. "Both competed hard and ran tactically sound races. Lexi got faster each 200, took the lead with 200m to go and won her heat. Emmy did very well considering how it was her first 800 in quite a while."

Reagan Ruth ran her first 100 meter hurdles while Jessika Rennich competed in the 400 meter dash.

"Jessie ran a strong 400 and Reagan had a decent race in the 100mh considering the terrible weather," Meyer said about his two sprinters.

Rennich led off the Mocs in the 4x100 meter relay with Maddie Wheatcroft running the second leg. Ruth and Imani Bryant finished out the final two legs to finish second in their heat with a time of 53.15.

"The kids across the board showed improvement despite the weather," Meyer said. "They were mentally focused and tough and did not let the negativity, considering the weather, affect their performance."

Chattanooga will head to Atlanta, Ga., for the Georgia Tech Invite slated for April 21-22 at the George C. Griffin Track and Field Facility on the Yellow Jacket campus.
