Senior John Houk and the Chattanooga Mocs open play Sunday at the Marquette Intercollegiate.

MILWAUKEE---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team is starting the 2023-24 season in a major way. Well, at a major venue as the Marquette Intercollegiate begins Sunday at Erin Hills Golf Club. The 3-day, 54-hole event traverses the prime-time course that hosted the 2017 U.S. Open.
More than 7700 yards awaits the 12-team field. It's also the first look at this edition of the men's golf squad. The opening lineup includes John Houk, Garrett Engle, Braedon Wear, Ward Harris and Samuel Espinosa. Carson Johnson gets his first test as well playing as an individual.
The Mocs played a 90-hole qualifying tournament to make out the 6-man travel squad. True freshman Harris earned his spot finishing fourth behind Houk, Engle and Wear. Espinosa out-lasted Johnson and Paul Conroy in the end. Houk shot a scintillating 22 under, a 67.4 scoring average, over the five rounds and was joined under par by Engle (-8) and Wear (-4).

- Last time opening the season with a team win? 2008 Aldila Scenic City Invitational with a 45-under total of 819. Best score vs. par in school history.
