MATCH NOTES
Â
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs wrestling squad is back in action this weekend with a 2-match road swing through North Carolina and Virginia. It starts Friday evening at Duke and ends Sunday afternoon at VMI.
Â
The Mocs are 5-2 on the year with three ranked individuals.
Noah Castillo leads the way, per FloWrestling, at No. 25 among the nation's 149s. Boarman is 28th at 133, while
Brayden Palmer comes in at 29 at 125.
Â
Despite facing an ACC opponent and opening Southern Conference action, Coach
Kyle Ruschell has singular focus on what's needed in the road ahead.
Â
"It's important that we continue to be the aggressors," Ruschell shared. "We need to focus on ourselves and how we impact our opponents. Be strong in our ties and assertive in our intentions from the very start."
Â
That certainly bears itself out on the stat sheet. Chattanooga is 45-3 (.938) in dual matches when securing the first takedown, 5-17 when surrendering the advantage early. The aggressiveness has seen a strong uptick in bonus points scored.
Â
The squad claimed extra points in 36 of 50 dual wins averaging better than a major decision per triumph (4.28 pts/dual win). Boarman (133) and
Kamdyn Munro (165) lead the way with 10 ahead of
Ty Tice (125) and
David Harper (197) with eight and seven apiece.
Â
Isaiah Powe (11-2) and Munro (11-4) are tied for the team lead with 11 wins at 141 and 165, respectively. Boarman is right behind at 10-2, while Castillo (9-2) and 174
Sergio Desiante (9-4) are looking to reach double digits on the season.

NOTES
- Two wins would give the squad a 7-2 start, the best since the 2015-16 Southern Conference co-Champs.
- The Mocs don't wrestle ACC opponents often. The last win over an ACC program was a 19-18 triumph at No. 19 Virginia on Feb. 14, 2016. There have been just nine matches against the league since that win nearly eight years ago.
- 20-match win streak over the Keydets with 10 in a row in Lexington. The last loss was a 26-12 decision in Chattanooga on Feb. 22, 2003, while the most recent loss at VMI was Feb. 10, 1996 (26-9).
