Blue-Gold Exhibition Thrills Fans at Maclellan Saturday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Mocs wrestling Gold Team dominated the action Saturday afternoon at Maclellan Gym for the annual Blue-Gold exhibition. Gold won eight of the 12 matches to claim a 32-19 victory.
 
Gold won the first three matches to take an 11-0 lead. However, back-to-back technical falls by the Blue squad made it a one-point match with Gold leading 11-10. Gold scored 21 points over the next five matches to secure a 32-10 lead. Blue, with a pin by David Harper in the 197 bout, scored the final nine points.

"I like where we're at. I think we saw a lot of offense right away," Mocs head coach Kyle Ruschell said. "Ultimately, we're wrestling against each other, so it's awkward, but I think our guys did a good job. Little details, edge of mat stuff and a few other little details before next weekend and we'll be ready to go."
 
The season starts on Friday, Nov. 1, at Virginia Tech. The squad then shifts to Salem, Va., for the Southeast Open on Saturday. The first home date is Nov. 23 with Purdue and Princeton visiting Maclellan Gym.
 
Tickets are on sale. Season tickets start as low as $45 for UTC employees/alumni and $55 for general public. That's for general admission at Maclellan Gym as well as Gold Circle seating at the Roundhouse for the Southern Scuffle.
