CHATTANOOGA (November 16, 2024) --- Fresh off its first win on Thursday, the Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball is back on the road for a Sunday matinee matchup at Southeast Missouri (SEMO) inside the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
Chattanooga (1-3) picked up its first win of the season in its long-awaited home opener on Thursday night, defeating defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Morehead State 76-62. The Mocs contest on Sunday against the Redhawks marks the fourth true road game for the team in the season's first five games and second-straight game against OVC competition.
UTC defeated SEMO, 72-56, last season on November 26, 2023, as part of the Coke Zero Sugar Classic held inside McKenzie Arena. This year's edition of the Redhawks (1-2) have dropped road games at Bradley and Vanderbilt while capturing a non-DI win over Crowley's Ridge College at home on Wednesday.

CHATTANOOGA EARNS WIN NO. 1
- Chattanooga (1-3) picked up its first win of the season in its home opener on Thursday night, defeating defending OVC-champion Morehead State 76-62 inside McKenzie Arena. Tied 37-37 at half, UTC held the Eagles to just 25 second-half points as
Bash Wieland led the scoring attack with a career-high 26 points including 18 in the second half.
BASH THROWS A BASH IN HOME DEBUT
- Grad transfer guard
Bash Wieland made himself comfortable at home in his Roundhouse debut on Thursday, scoring a career-high 26 points on 9-14 FG (3-6 3PT) while adding five rebounds and a career-best three steals. Wieland missed the first two games at USC & Saint Mary's (CA) due to injury before returning Monday at Austin Peay, where he posted 19 points, two boards and two steals in 26 minutes.
SECOND HALF DEFENSE KEY TO THURSDAY'S WIN
- Chattanooga responded after a slow first half performance in Thursday's win over Morehead State with an aggressive second-half defensive performance. UTC allowed just 25 points over the final 20 minutes while holding the Eagles to 7-23 (30.4%) shooting including a lowly 1-8 (12.5%) mark from three.
SEMO'S RECENT PAST
- SEMO enters Sunday's contest holding a 1-2 record with road losses at Bradley and Vanderbilt to begin the year before capturing a large 93-38 over non-DI Crowley's Ridge College on Wednesday. The Redhawks finished the 2023-24 season 9-22 overall and 4-14 inside OVC play, ultimately ending the season with a 70-66 win over Southern Indiana in the regular season finale (no OVCT berth).
INSIDE THE SEMO ROSTER
- SEMO's roster in 2024-25 is veteran heavy with 10 of the 14 total players consisting of upperclassman status (two seniors, eight juniors). The Redhawks return seven guys from last year's squad while adding six transfers and one true freshman to make up the 14-man roster. SEMO was picked to finish seventh in the preseason Ohio Valley Conference Coaches Poll. The program last earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23.
