Lesley Green Boyd Finishes 121st at NCAA Nationals

MADISON, Wis. --- Chattanooga's Lesley Boyd moved steadily through the throng of runners on a cold, overcast morning at the Timothy Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis., to finish 121st out of 255 runners at the NCAA Women's National Cross Country Championship.

"It was a perfect day for racing," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "Lesley ran well. It was a very fast start and the pace did not subside. Lesley went out strong and was able to maintain her effort throughout the entirety of the race. She moved up, gaining spots each kilometer."

After sitting 247th through the first 1000 meters, Boyd pushed to move up 85 spots to 162nd through the first half of the race in 10:31.1. Her next kilometer was her fastest at 3:19.7 and saw her gain 28 more spots to 134.

She finished 121st overall with a time of 20:40.5.

Alabama's Doris Lemngole was the overall champion after finishing second in the NCAA South Region Championship last week with a time of 19:21.0. BYU won the women's title with 147 points ahead of West Virginia (164) and Providence (183).

ANDY MEYER ON LESLEY GREEN BOYD
"It was a privilege to watch her race the last cross country race of her career. It was a great way to end her cross country career. Lesley has been the heart and soul of this team since she arrived on campus. It has been an honor to coach her. She makes everyone around her better including teammates and coaching staff. She is and has been the model ambassador for our team, the university and the Chattanooga community. No one works harder, no one is as coachable and no one has the personal integrity of Lesley. She is irreplaceable and we will miss her greatly."
