CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs took a 33-6 defeat at Campbell Saturday afternoon in Southern Conference wrestling. It was a tough day for scoring against a defensive Camels squad.
Â
"We battled early and late," Coach
Kyle Ruschell noted. "They wrestled very defensively and made it difficult to get into our offense. They dominated three classes and the other seven could've gone either way.
Â
"It was disappointing to see us not score better. Ten matches, there were seven takedowns I think...that's not the type of dual we generally see. We needed more offense, but our guys were right there with the best team in the conference."
Â
There were just two takedowns in the first four matches that started at the 149 weight class. The Camels captured a 12-0 lead in tight battles based mostly on escapes, riding points and referee decisions. The heat got turned up with three straight first period falls at 184-285 to clinch the win.
Â
Brayden Palmer blanked Zander Phaturos at 125 to get his squad on the board.
Blake Boarman was on the short side of a narrow decision to Domenic Zaccone in a nationally-ranked matchup at 133 before
Isaiah Powe captured the final bout 2-1 in a match that mirrored the dual as a whole with two escapes and the riding time bonus earning the win for the true freshman.
Â
The Mocs continue on the road to close the regular season next weekend at Indiana and Bellarmine.
