Mocs Track and Field Wrap Up First Day of Georgia Tech Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. --- The Chattanooga track and field team finished up the first day of competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday night.

Maddie Wheatcroft and Kathryn Vradenburgh ran the 1500 meter run. Vradenburgh finished second in her heat while Wheatcroft was eighth in her own.

"Maddie and Kathryn ran well in their respective heats," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "Maddie's heat went out very fast. She hung tough and with 300 meters left, kicked it in. Kathryn was able to get to the front of her heat and then with 600 meters, stretched out the pace and hung on for second."

Wheatcroft was 28th overall with a time of 4:38.70 and Vrandenburgh was 38th at 4:42.88.

In the women's 5000 meter run, Leah Boyd led the Mocs finishing 21st overall with a time of 17:57.20. Andrea Ellis was just off her PR with a time of 18:24.10.

"The women in the 5000 meter competed well," Meyer said. "They all made up places in the second half of the race."

Aaron Isbell finished 17th overall in the men's 5000 meter with a time of 14:51.82 to lead six Mocs in the race. Riley Hanson finished with a personal best time of 15:24.62. Caleb Jarrett took more than 20 seconds off his time in the 5000 meter with a time of 15:28.35 while Tristan Gould set a PR at 15:50.29.

"Tristan and Caleb and Riley ran personal bests," Meyer said. "They ran strong and finished with great kicks."

The meet wraps up Saturday with the Mocs sprinters and middle distance runners. Sarah Unterholzner gets the day started at 1:30 p.m. in the 400 meter hurdles. Ava McGue will represent the Mocs in the 400 meter dash while Lexi Foley and Kennedy Reynolds will run the 800 meter. The day concludes with two teams in the 4x400 meter relay.
