CHATTANOOGA---One. More. Sleep.
Â
That's all that's left before the Chattanooga Mocs host the Mercer Bears in Finley Stadium Saturday evening. It's the home opener and first chance in the Southern Conference for both teams with championship aspirations. Mix in it's a top 25 showdown between the 14th-ranked Mocs and No. 23 Bears and the stage is certainly set for an exciting night.
Â
Here's your last look as well as all you need to know to be game ready.
Â
It's been a while since you've been in Finley Stadium…what all do I need to know? We've got you. Yeah, it was five straight on the road, but the boys are back in town! There's the clear bag policy still in place, the facility is cashless and there are tons of promotions.
Go here for all the pertinent facts and figures that go with attending a game at Finley.
Â
What's the 411 on tickets? Season tickets are always the way to go. But you can also get the 3-game mini-plan or go game-by-game. If you do go the single-game route, here's a pro tip. Purchase ahead of time
on GoMocs.com. Tickets cost $2 more at the Finley ticket booths.
Â
I can't be there tomorrow night, but I don't want to miss it. How can I follow along? Well, there are a lot of ways to keep informed. Phone, tablet, computer or TV, there's the
ESPN+ broadcast. Can't watch, you can listen on WFLI 96.1/99.3 FM or 1070 AM plus 99.1 FM in Cleveland or go
here on GoMocs.com. Still no good? Gotta be more on the down low. There's always @GoMocsFB on Twitter. Our strategic comms crew do the Lord's work there (shout out Corey Belonzi) plus there's
live stats online here as well.
Â
Mercer is kind of a new program right? Yes and no. The Bears re-started the program last decade after hibernating post WWII. They are an old school rival playing us in three different conferences – SIAA, Dixie & SoCon – over the decades. The first game dates back to 1909. You can check out
the history here.
Â
Look, I like to be in the know. Just a little smarter (let's face it a lot) smarter than the person next to me at the water cooler. Especially that know-it-all Hanrahan. Where can I read up on the game? The GoMocs.com
media center is here and has game notes from the good guys, Mercer and the league office.
Â
Top 25 matchup huh…when was the last time these two were ranked and played each other? Welp, that's occurred just once. That's the last time this pair matched up in the Scenic City. No. 10 Chattanooga 41, No. 11 Mercer 21. The Mocs have been ranked seven times in these meetings and are 4-3 on those occasions, 3-1 in Chattanooga.

Notes
- WR Sam Phillips is third nationally in receiving yards per game (124.5) and fourth in total receiving yards (249).
- Phillips first career TD came in the 2022 win over the Bears, a physical 53-yard catch-and-run to make it 34-14 in the third quarter. It's the cover pic above.
- Coach Rusty Wright looks to build on the best Mocs start to a coaching career in SoCon games. He's 24-12 (.667) eclipsing Huesman (23-17) in four FEWER games. By baseball math, he's got a 3-game advantage on his old boss.
- Chattanooga has played in 168 games as a nationally ranked squad entering 2024 with an 83-86-1 (.491) record, 58-58 (.500) ranked in the FCS.
- The rushing attack is just 15 yards shy of 10,000 in the Rusty Wright/Joe Pizzo era. In 54 games, their offenses average just shy of 170 yards per game. Pizzo was the offensive coordinator at Mercer in 2018 before joining the good guys in 2019.
- LB Alex Mitchell's sixth (of 7) tackle in Knoxville was the 100th of his career. His 10 tackles at Georgia State was his 4th career game with double digits, three coming on the road.
- Offense is eighth nationally in pass yards per completion (14.81 ypc). That's after back-to-back weeks against FBS Bowl winners in 2023. QB Chase Artopoeus is ninth (14.92).
