Senior Braedon Wear and the Chattanooga Mocs begin the 2024-25 season defending their title at the Bearcat Invitational.

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team gets the 2024-25 season started Monday at the Bearcat Invitational. The field tackles Coldstream Country Club in a 2-day, 54-hole event.
The Mocs are defending champions, the second of back-to-back wins to start last campaign. It's a new year, new team with two starters back.
Seniors Garrett Engle and Braedon Wear look to lead the line. The duo were integral in the back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances with the 2023 model advancing to the finals.
They're joined by fellow senior Dalton Chuba, sophomore Camden Braidech and freshman Ethan Whitaker. Whitaker made the squad in a playoff with Carson Johnson after six rounds of the squad's qualifying school.

Notes
- Start of the third season under Coach Blaine Woodruff, 25th event. Program has six team wins and four medalists over that stretch.
- Wear has the lone UTC medalist honor on the current roster. It was a 10-under 203 effort in the 2021 J.T. Poston Invite.
- Chattanooga won the Erin Hills Intercollegiate to open the 2023-24 season. Last time winning the first time out in back-to-back seasons? Never been done in program history.
- Mocs won last year's Bearcat Invitational with a 14-under total of 838. Last time successfully defending a title? 2012-13 Southern Conference Championships. Last time in regular season? Not on record. The program won back-to-back Cleveland Golf/Palmetto Intercollegiate in 2008 and 2010 but did not play in 2009.
- Engle had quite a summer. He won the Dogwood Invitational, was runner-up at the Porter Cup and reached the round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur reaching celebrity status for "the grip".
- Wear (215) and Engle (219) were in the starting lineup last year at Coldstream.
- The pair of Wear and Engle have started four of Woodruff's six wins. Wear has started in all six.
- Three of the four wins with Engle have come "up north": 2023 Hoosier Invite, 2023 Erin Hills Intercollegiate & 2023 Bearcat Invite.
- Chuba has the best returning scoring average with a 72.93 over five tournaments (15 rounds). Team finishes in his five starts: 2-2-2-T4-9.
- Braidech and Whitaker are making their first starts in the blue & gold. Braidech is a transfer from Liberty, while Whitaker is a true freshman from Knoxville.
